How to make your treadmill more enjoyable so you keep using it

Everyone has tried this or that new exercise fad and then given up quickly when it simply became too boring or repetitive. Some people find that while an exercise routine is not too difficult to start, after doing it for a little while they no longer have any interest in that particular practice, and so give it up eventually. Many of us are guilty of such behavior, but it is only human nature to become board with things as time goes by. Things come up in life that are difficult to prepare for and which require all of our time and energy. A family emergency, or even just a stressful time at work can require so much time that we find ourselves without any time for exercise. This is especially unfortunate, because such times are when we might most need to exercise in order to relieve stress or frustration. If you are like so many of us and find it hard to keep up an exercise program, and especially working out on a treadmill, consider a couple of these suggestions.

Remember that it is always a good suggestion to consult a doctor before you either start a new form of exercise or increase the amount or intensity of the exerciser you are doing.

A treadmill is generally a fairly expensive piece of machinery, so you do not simply want it to sit there without any particular use other than filling space. A treadmill is also a great piece of exercise equipment, so it is a real shame to miss out on the benefits to health, appearance, and overall well-being that come from using it. In juxtaposition to running, however, you may find that the treadmill is boring to use. You simply run inside a room instead of out in the open where there are things to see. You may also feel like the motion is more repetitive and that you do not have as much control over the pace or incline as you would like. Any of these reasons are good ones to feel a bit bored with your treadmill, but they are not good reasons to give up using it forever.

Most treadmills have various controls that allow you to vary the workout greatly. You can do a high speed workout or a high incline workout. When you normally run this can be very hard to do, because you are the one in control of the pace and steepness. This is also true of a treadmill, but when you have set the speed and incline the machine simply continues going at that setting, meaning that you can simply keep up and get the workout you want. This can make the treadmill more enjoyable to use because it can help you achieve your fitness goals much more easily.
Remember that many treadmills also have set workouts that you can try. If you find yourself bored with simply plodding on at the same pace, try one of these workouts. You will find that the machine has all sorts of surprises in store, so you can count on some variety in the workouts.

One real advantage of a treadmill is that you can listen to any music you want while working out, and without the hassle of some sort of portable music player. This is both safer and more convenient. When you run outside with an MP3 player or similar device, you are not as aware of the environment as you probably should be, and are more prone to getting into an accident. With a treadmill you can play music and do not have to worry about carrying the device or running into something.
