How to tweeze your eyebrows for your face shape

Before you grab your tweezers, however, it's important to first figure out which eyebrow shapes will look best on you. Before you do that, you'll need to first find out which face shape you have. The following tips will help you know how to tweeze your eyebrows for your face shape:

Oval

  • The forehead is wider than the chin
  • Cheekbones are prominent
  • The face gracefully tapers to a narrow, oval-shaped chin

The shape of your eyebrows can play a big part in the overall appearance of your face. Eyebrows that are shaped correctly and regularly tweezed look well-groomed and can increase self-esteem as well.

People with oval face shapes have the luck to be able to pretty much get away with whatever they want with regards to eyebrows. Because the face is parallel, eyebrow shaping for oval face shapes are simply a matter of preference.

Round

  • The face is almost as wide as it is long
  • The face's widest point is the cheeks

A high arch in the brow can help a round face appear more oval in shape. This draws the eye more up and down instead of going from side to side, giving the appearance of a longer face.

To tweeze a high arch, move the peak or arch out towards the end of the brow. This lets the lines of the brow go up and down as much as possible. The tail of the brow, or the point after the arch, should be short.

Long

  • The forehead, cheekbones and jaw line are all about the same width
  • The chin can be prominent
  • Overall, the face has an elongated appearance

People with long face shapes can achieve a more oval shape by tweezing the brow in a flat line instead of a higher arch, which alleviates the appearance of a more elongated face.

Square

  • Like the long shape, the forehead, cheekbones and jawline all about the same width
  • The jaw is usually squared

Eyebrows that have a sharp angle help to balance out a squared, prominent jaw line. When tweezing for a square face shape, the arch of the brow should be right above the square of the jaw.

Heart

  • The forehead is wider than the chin
  • Cheekbones are prominent
  • The chin tapers to a point.

The heart-shaped face is similar in features to the oval shape, except the chin is usually pointier. Eyebrows on a heart-shaped face look best when gently rounded instead of a sharp arch.

Tips and pointers
When tweezing eyebrows, it's easy to get carried away and pluck too much. You should take care not to do this, since eyebrows generally don't grow back as readily as hair on other parts of the body. Avoid over-plucking by drawing an outline of how you want your brows to be shaped. You can purchase stencils as well to help guide you.

Pluck the hairs in the direction they grow, and just take a hair or two at a time so you don't end up with bald spots in your eyebrows. Stop plucking every few plucks and step back and examine your work to make sure you're not taking too much off.

If pain and redness concern you, numb the area with a little ice before you begin tweezing. In addition, rubbing a little aloe on the area when you're done will help relieve redness.
