Prevention of poor health is better then fixing it later

One of the truest facts in life is that prevention of poor health is better than fixing it later. A lot of people live by the philosophy, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow science will have an answer to my problems, and I will live." Unfortunately, while this is true in many cases, the quality of life is what is lacking.

Let's look at an example that can better illustrate this point. Compare your body to a car. Let's say you buy your car new. You wash it weekly. You change the oil every 3000 miles on the dot. You use the right grade of fuel, even if it is more expensive. You have regular tune ups. You rotate your tires. You drive at appropriate speeds, and you take care of the car. Now let's say your neighbor buys the same car, on the same day. Only, instead of doing all of these things, he does what is fastest, easiest, and least expensive. Pretty soon the car breaks down. Of course, his mechanic is very good, and is able to fix the problem. Now both cars are up for sale. Which would you rather have? The one that has been taken good care of and has no problems? Or, the one that has been neglected for the sake of ease, expense, and time, and also has no problems because the mechanic fixed them? Exactly. Our bodies are like these cars. If you always do what is fastest (fast foods instead of something healthy, for example), what is cheapest (buying prepackaged manufactured foods as opposed to vegetables because it is cheaper), and what is easiest (no exercise), you will be like the car that is a problem waiting to happen. Sure the doctor can help fix you, but it is not the same.

Anytime you fix something it is not as good as new. Let's face it. So, instead of looking at fixing the problem as the answer, it is time for a new mindset. You should be looking to prevent problems. Prevention of health problems is fairly simple: Eat right, sleep enough, and exercise daily. Also avoid harmful substances.

So what happens when you prevent poor health?

First and foremost you will likely lead a happier life. Not to mention a less expensive life as far as doctor's visits, hospital bills, etc. go. Instead of thousands of dollars for surgeries, medications, and high deductibles, you will spend a little here and there on copays for checkups and immunizations. Another huge factor of prevention is less stress and worry. If your sister in law gets breast cancer, you are going to be stressed out, even though she can get radiation, surgery, chemo, etc. So, instead of putting yourself and your family through that, revel in the fact that you have taken the steps of prevention.

So, as you can see, when it comes to your body, it is smart not to take chances. It is true that there are a lot of great advancements in science and technology. Doctors have made it possible for people who lose their legs to walk again, for premature babies to live normal lives, and many other amazing things to solve the problems of aging, neglected, abused, misused, and sick bodies. However, wouldn't you rather never have to use these items? Just because science has an answer to a problem, does not mean you should not try to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place. So, start today with a healthier lifestyle.
