It's a question many women ask themselves should I shave, wax or just invest in laser hair removal. Let's break it down to make it easier for you.

Most women are familiar with shaving. Women commonly shave their legs and underarms. There are many different types of razors and shaving creams that are marketed for shaving. Most women also shave more than once a week and this can cause dry skin and take a lot of time out of a busy day. Shaving can also give you cuts and nicks that can lead to scars on your legs and the dreaded razor burn or ingrown hairs. Every woman shaves a little bit different according to how she was taught but it always requires some type of razor and soap or shaving cream. Over a woman's average lifespan they can spend an average of 58 days shaving with a cost close to $11,000. Shaving with razors also leads to excess garbage and other wastes.

Waxing is a method of semi-permanent removal of unwanted hair. Waxing removes the hair from the roots and it can hurt. Waxing can last anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. Waxing can also be done to any part of the body that has unwanted hair. There are many different types of waxes available over the counter for home use. Waxing your unwanted hair can also be done at a local spa that has the product already on hand. When you use waxing to remove unwanted hair you will be spreading a thin layer of wax over the skin you want to remove the hair from. After the wax is applied a cloth or paper strip is then pressed onto the wax and then ripped off quickly. Waxing can be the most expensive form of hair removal. Women who wax may only do it one to two per months but can spend $23,000 over the course of a lifetime and dedicate almost 54 days to waxing during their lifetime.

Laser hair removal is gaining in popularity. The process of laser hair removal lasts for about an hour for both legs and less time for other parts of the body depending on how much hair is there. A laser is moved you're your legs or other areas while a light passes through your skin and gets absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. Laser hair removal is thought to work by breaking apart the hair follicles and stopping the growth of new hair. For the next two months the hairs will gradually fall out. There is not much pain associated with laser hair removal and what is felt will be like a rubber band being lightly snapped on the skin. Laser hair removal reduces the amount of hair growth but may not always remove all the hair. You may need to go back for another laser removal procedure but this is a rare occurrence. Laser hair removal may be a lot of money at the beginning but in the long run laser removal will save a woman an average of $7,000 over a lifetime. Laser hair removal is also a green procedure. It can conserve water from time not spent shaving.

Shaving versus waxing, versus laser hair removal is a personal option. If you are happy with shaving then you should continue to do so. Waxing is more expensive but won't leave cuts and can give you cleaner and smoother areas where it was used. Laser hair removal is becoming more popular and can be expensive at first but the results are well worth it.
