Striving for those six pack abs

situps36752974.jpgIf you are tired of walking around with a gut or a flat belly, the time has come to start working hard to get those six pack abs you have always dreamed about. If you have the motivation, perseverance, and determination to get six pack abs you can do it. In order to get six pack abs, you first need to look at your diet. We all know that exercise will help you define the abs, but the food you are eating could be covering your abs with unnecessary fat.

Start by cutting out the fats and sugars from your diet. Say goodbye to soda, it is just empty calories that puts weight around your midsection like nothing else. Candy is another way to ruin a washboard stomach. Fatty foods like popcorn caked in butter and salt, potato chips, and cookies are going to make it difficult for you to wash the fat off your stomach and define your abs. Get rid of the snacks and replace them with healthier options like lean meats and cheese.

Increase your water intake. Water helps to flush the toxins and sugars from the body. If you are trying to get six pack abs, drinking plenty of water is one of the best things you can do. Water also helps you to stay hydrated when you are working out, allowing you to have more stamina during your workout.

Once you have your diet under control, you are ready to get started with some abdominal muscle exercises. Here are some exercises that will burn fat and tone up your abs quickly:

  • Ab Curl. This is a basic ab exercise and it truly does work. You need to lie on the floor with your legs bent at the knee and your feet shoulder width apart. Place your arms across your chest with your hands grasping the opposite shoulders. Now lift up with your abs until your shoulders are about 1-2 inches off the floor. Stay in this position for 4 seconds and release, lift up again, and release. Continue repeating this process for 5 minutes. To add intensity to the workout, lift your feet off the ground and hold them in the air during the entire workout.

  • Lift and crunch. Another popular ab exercise is the lift and crunch. Place both feet on the floor shoulder width apart. Now lift your shoulders toward the opposite knee. Repeat on one side for 2 minutes and then repeat on the other side. You should do about 30-60 crunches on each side.

  • Climbing crunch. To target the upper section of your abdominal muscles, this is one of the best ab exercises out there. Like the first two exercises, you will be lying on your back and then lift your shoulders off the floor about 2 inches. This is your starting position. Now, lift your arms up, pulling your torso with it, like you are climbing a rope. Continue this ab exercise for 5 minutes.

  • Leg Raise. To target the lower abdominal muscles, you need to lie flat on the floor. Slowly raise your legs up off the floor, pulling them up with your abdominal muscles. You want to lift them up to a 90 degree angel and release. Repart this 10 times and try to do at least 3-5 sets of this exercise. It is a hard one so don't give up! Try to keep your motion slow and fluent, it's the best way to get through the exercise. To target your oblique muscles, rotate your leg raises from left.

  • Bicycle crunches. This is a popular ab exercise. Lay on your back with your hands behind your head. Lift your feet off the floor and pump them back and forth in the air like you are riding a bike. Bring your shoulders up off the floor and push your elbow toward the opposite knee when you are pushing your legs in and out. This is a great ab exercise to strengthen your entire torso.
