Taking care of your body has never been an easy task. From getting the right amounts of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, to getting enough exercise it can sometimes feel like an impossible task to find a balance. Supplementing your health with everything it needs can pose a challenge to even the best of us. Here are some suggestions on supplements to keep your body healthy; physically and mentally.

Taking vitamin supplements is one of the best ways to keep your body healthy and thriving. Although flu shots and a good diet play a role, there are just some things our body needs that it won't necessarily get unless we take it through a supplement. Nutritional supplements not only decrease the risk of disease, but they can also fill up what's missing in your diet. Here are some of the best supplements to give your body:

  • Vitamin B-12. Many doctors and nutritionist have been promoting the use of B-12 recently as it has been found to give your body much more than professionals originally thought. Without enough vitamin B-12 people can suffer from anemia, blood cell disorders, and neurological disorders like memory loss.

  • Folate. Folate is another one of those vitamin supplements that many professionals have discovered is a much needed mineral for your body. Vitamin B folate reduces the levels of homocysteine, which is a hormone that is a factor in cardiovascular disease and stroke. Folate can be found in dark leafy green vegetables, as well as yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds and grain products like pasta and flour.

  • Calcium. Calcium is one of the most essential nutrients your body needs to supplement its health. Most people don't understand how important calcium is to your body and often don't get enough into their bodies. Calcium can be found mainly in dairy products like whole or skim milk, yogurt, and cheese. It can also be found in orange juice.

Supplementing your health with exercise

Another important part of supplementing your health is with enough exercise. Staying physically active is a crucial part to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Exercise has been proven to reduce stress as well as decrease your chances of cardiovascular disease and stroke. You don't have to kill yourself exercising to have it do something for you body though; here are some ideas to get physically active:

  • Walking. If you're not use to working out but want a starting point then try walking. You may not burn calories as quickly as you would running, but it definitely gets your heart rate up and gets you moving. It's also much easier on your ankles, knees, and back than running and can actually be a nice break from the mundane of your 8-5 work day.

  • Cycling. Don't start to hyperventilate when you hear the word cycling. Some people are avid cyclers and do it often, but even it you're not riding your bike is a great way to get out and enjoy nature while getting some physical exercise at the same time.

  • Join a Gym. If you're not so great a motivating yourself then getting a membership to a gym might be a good idea. They are generally staffed with professionals who can help you meet your needs and goals and create a program that will keep you healthy and fit.

Supplementing your health may take some time and effort, but your body will definitely thank you for it 10 years down the road when it's feeling and looking great.
