Treadmills are great exercise tools. You might prefer running outside, which is understandable, but when you have tried a treadmill and all of its various options, you might find yourself wanting to stay indoors and keep running in one spot. Treadmills allow you to program your own workouts and to vary both speed and incline with only the touch of a button. Many treadmills also allow you to monitor your heart rate while exercising, which can be especially helpful because much of good fitness depends on the heart rate at which a person works out at.

All around the treadmill is a great exercise machine that can help you get into much better shape and improve many things in your life, such as appearance, self esteem, general health, and energy levels. More energy means that you fell better and are able to accomplish more. It might be a bit of a stretch to say it, but something as simple as working out on a treadmill for a certain amount of time every day, or even every couple of days, and change your life for the best. If you know anything about treadmills then you know that they come in a couple of different varieties.

There are the large, bulky treadmills at gyms and the folding type you see in many people's homes these days. Folding treadmills have several great advantages and disadvantages. Here are a few:

The greatest advantage of the folding model is that it saves allot of space. Treadmills are large machines. The ones in gyms can take up several square feet and weigh allot. If you do not have this kind of room in your home, and few of us do, try a folding treadmill, which simply folds up and can be stored much more easily. The folding option is also nice because it makes it much easier to clean underneath the treadmill. A cleaner environment is both better for your health, but also better for the machine.

Remember that you should always consult a doctor before you begin any form of exercise or before you change the amount or intensity of that exercise.

Another benefit is that the folding machine is not so much of an eyesore. It is fine to see a big treadmill in a gym, but you might not want one of the things hanging out in your living room.
There are a few disadvantages regarding folding treadmills that you should definitely know about before you buy one. First, folding treadmills have been known to be less stable than regular treadmills. This seems to be less the case now than it used to be, but you should be careful and test the machine before you buy it to find out if it is fully stable.

Because the treadmill folds you might also have more problems with breaking parts. The parts that are used to help the treadmill fold are breakable and could cause problems.
Most folding treadmills are cheaper than regular treadmills, but similar models can actually be more expensive amongst the folding models. This is because the companies who make the machines have to put more money into building the folding model than the regular model.

These are some of the basic advantages and disadvantages that you should know about before you buy a folding model. There are several cheap folding models out there that you should avoid. It might be worth it to spend a little bit more and make sure that you get both a safe and proven machine. If space is a major issue for you, then a folding treadmill is probably the way to go.
