Things that cause acne outbreaks
No one likes to have a red bumpy acne filled face, and yet it seems to be a part of real life sometimes. However, acne is not just a teenage problem but is also an adult skin condition. While there is no definitive cause has been found for the cause of acne there are contributing factors. Let's take a look at those:
- Sebum oil is an oil that naturally moisturizes the skin, but can cause acne. While this oil has the purpose of naturally moisturizing the skin and cleansing dead skin cells, if it is trapped under the skin, pimples form. When this oil gets trapped the body produces more oil to help moisturize the skin and clear dead skin cells, and this leads to overly oily skin and more acne. So, in short, acne is caused by over clogging of the ducts that lead from the glands, and from the overproduction of this oil.

- Hormones can also be attributed as a cause of acne as they influence the production of sebaceous oil. Excessive oil production leads to bacterial growth which leads to pimples and cysts. Whiteheads are formed when the oil comes to the surface. Blackheads are formed if the oil is oxidized. Both are part of acne.
- Testosterone is also a contributor to acne. It a hormone found in both women and men. Testosterone regulates sebum production and can contribute to acne if the levels create too much.
- Your diet can also play a big role in the amount of acne you have, or don't have. Poor nutrition may be a cause of acne. Some foods increase your oil production. Other foods affect your hormone levels, such as fats and sugars, and these can affect oil production leading to break outs. So, this is why people say eating too much chocolate can make you breakout. It is true. For many, poor nutrition and the affects of that are the main causes for acne. So eat fresh fruits and vegetables, well balanced meals, and avoid fats, sugars and processed and refined foods and your face will be a lot clearer.
- Cosmetics can lead to an outbreak of acne. If you use the wrong kind of cosmetics for your face, or cosmetics with harsh chemicals, you may be causing your own acne breakouts. Some cosmetics clog the pores. Always look for those that are labeled as non-allergenic to reduce your chances of an allergic reaction. Also, look for ones with natural ingredients. You will probably have to pay more, but you will have clearer skin.
- Despite popular belief, dirt does not cause blackheads, but keeping your skin clean can reduce the odds of an acne outbreak. Dirt can contribute to excess oils and the clogging of the glands in the skin. A normal sanitary wash can help reduce your chances. So wash your face daily.
- Certain medications can cause an acne outbreak. Cortisone and Steroids have known side effects including acne. If your skin breaks out with acne regularly, you will want to avoid these medications.
The fact is why you have acne breakouts depends on you. There is no cut and dried answer. However, it is important to know the remedies that you can do to prevent an acne outbreak, and explore treatment options specific to your face and skin. Everyone is different so a generic fix all won't work, you need something formulated for your skin type and severity.
