A strong immune system can help you stay healthy during the cold and flu season. It's essential to have a good strong immune system in order to fight off all the bad bugs of the winter seasons and to keep your body healthy. A healthy immune system can help fight disease and many infections and there are several way to help boost your immune system to do just that. Here are some tips for boosting your immune system.

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated
Most people don't ever drink the recommended daily amount of water which is 8 cups a day per person. And most people don't know that if you are telling yourself you are thirsty it's because you're already dehydrated. Drinking lots of water can not only keep you healthy, it can boost your immune system.

Tip #2: Avoid Caffeine
It may seem all too obvious after just emphasizing what water can do for your body to encourage you to stay away from caffeine. Chocolate and caffeine are probably the two worst things you can give your body. They interfere with your body's immune system and keep your body from being healthy. Caffeine actually takes away the minerals and vitamins your body needs to stay hydrated and healthy. It is said that for every cup of coffee you drink, you should add at least two more cups of water to your regular intake.

Tip #3: Get enough rest
In order to rejuvenate itself your body must get the rest it needs. With that in mind, the amount of rest you need compared to how much your friend or sister needs is completely different. In order to feel rested you might need at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep; while your sister may only need 6 hours of sleep. If you're tired during the day, and you are free to do so then try and take a quick power nap. A power nap can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on your body. If you get more than that it may make you feel more tired and thus is useless in its title; power nap.

Tip #4: Add some protein to your diet
Protein when eaten in moderation is an essential part of building a strong immune system and a healthy body. It contains an important ingredient called creatine which can help supply energy to muscles and nerve cells. Of course, like all other things, if it is eaten excessively can cause damage, so remember to make it an important part of your diet, but eat it sparingly.

Tip #5: Exercise
If you don't already know it by now, exercise is an essential part of keeping your body healthy and strong. It can increase blood circulation and help boost your immune system. Exercise has been tapped the cure for many illnesses; mental and physical. So don't sell yourself short by having a well balanced diet but forgetting to get the exercise you need to go along with it. You will notice a difference immediately with your body as soon as you start working out; inside and out.

Keeping your body healthy and strong can literally mean the difference between living and dying. Hopefully these tips for boosting your immune system will help get you started to living a healthier life.
