There is a lot of controversy over whether or not energy pills are something you should take or are good for you. One thing that anyone considering an energy pill needs to know is that just because it says it is all natural does not mean that it is not harmful. Let's look at energy pills:

What is in an energy pill?

Most energy pills contain a stimulant of some kind. It might be an herb, or it might be an artificial ingredient. If you are considering taking a supplement containing one or more stimulant classified herbs or energy enhancing ingredients you should check with your doctor before you start using them.

Why check with your doctor?

The reason you need to check with your doctor is because the effect energy pills differ from person to person, but they can have a huge effect on your metabolic rate and your adrenalin production. So, for example, it could be dangerous to take them if you have high blood pressure, as the stimulants will increase your heart rate. If you have a family history of heart disease or heart conditions energy supplements or fat burning products should not be taken at all since it could give you heart palpitations and an irregular heart beat.

What you need to know about when to take energy pills and how.

  • You shouldn't take an energy supplement too close to bedtime or your sleep will be affected.
  • If you drink coffee then energy pills will not affect you the same way as they will for non-coffee drinkers. So, be aware of your sensitivity so that you do not over take energy pills.
  • Women generally require less energy pills than men do for the same affect. So, take half the dosage.
  • Energy pills can be addictive, and should not be taken for more than three months straight. You should not take energy pills everyday, it can mess up your system and hurt your body.
  • If you take energy pills regularly, also take a regular dosage of essential fatty acids to maintain the health of the adrenal glands, as they are stressed and overtaxed by the stimulant.
  • It is not smart to take energy supplements on an empty stomach, it could result in a stomach ache or indigestions. Take any vitamin, pill or supplement with food.
  • Gradually work your way off of energy pills, if you regularly use a caffeine supplement, otherwise you will have headaches as your body goes through withdrawals. If you experience these symptoms, it may be a sign of withdrawals: headache; fatigue or drowsiness; dysphoric mood including depression and irritability; difficulty concentrating; and flu-like symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and muscle pain or stiffness.

Always consult a physician if you feel unsure or have questions regarding whether you should take an energy supplement or not. For the most part it is better to get your energy from eating a healthy diet of energy rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Get at least six hours of sleep at night, and try to get eight. Drink plenty of water. Avoid stimulants, processed, refined or other junk foods. Try to keep active. Believe it or not, things like regular exercise will give you more energy in the long run. So, before considering taking energy pills or supplements, try to get energy a healthy way. Energy pills are just a band-aide for a problem, and can create greater risks and problems for your body.
