Warding off winter time snuffles

Some people love the idea of bundling up for the winter and sipping hot chocolate in snow fallen weather; while others dread the thought of having to venture outside in the freezing temperatures. The winter season can be hard on many people, especially when the cold and flu season hits. Warding off winter time snuffles can be a tiresome process; those winter colds seem to linger for more than their fair share of time. If you're one of those people who seems to get that ever lingering cold, every year then here are some tips to warding off winter time snuffles.
Keep your hands clean
One of the best ways to keep yourself from catching a cold during the winter is to wash your hands constantly. It may sound a little obsessive compulsive, but if it keeps you from catching what all your co-workers have then isn't it worth it? It's important to wash before meals, after using the restroom (especially public ones), and after touching something that millions of other people have touch, like a shopping cart, or pens, etc. Some grocery stores even offer sanitizing wipes to wipe down shopping carts before you use them. If you're around someone who has already caught the cold then be smart and don't share eating or writing utensils and wash your hands a lot. Another great idea for keeping your hands clean is to carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you. There are many public places that you won't have the luxury of washing your hands with soap and water; this is a good substitute. Hand sanitizer kills about ninety nine percent of germs.

Get enough rest and eat healthy
The best way for anyone to stay healthy, let alone beat a cold is to get the recommended hours of rest and to have a healthy diet. This is definitely the time of year for eating sweets; Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are all holidays with sweets and candies. If you want to stay healthy then avoid eating these foods and stick with the foods that are high in vitamins and protein. Lean meats and fish, Fruits and vegetables, and whole grains are all great choices to keep your body running better. Try to avoid carbohydrates and sugars as they will steal your energy and don't provide a lot of nutritional value. Along with a healthy well balanced diet, you need to get plenty of rest. Many people underestimate the value of sleep and don't realize that sleeping rejuvenates and heals the body. If you think you can run without enough sleep, you're wrong. You're body will most likely tell you if and when you're tired so listen to it. If you feel a cold coming on go to bed; it will usually help.
Flu shots
There is much controversy over whether or not flu shots really work; whether or not they're safe. Well, the truth of the matter is that statistics have shown that over ninety percent of people who get flu shots don't get the flu and are more likely to ward of the common cold. If you want to play it safe, then go and get a flu shot before the worst part of the season hits. While they don't totally prevent you from getting a cold, they can help keep you healthier than if you hadn't had one.
Stay away from sick people
The very best way to ward off those winter time snuffles is to avoid people who have them altogether. Schools and health care facilities are nesting grounds for bacteria and germs so try to avoid them if possible. Children especially can bring home germs every day so make sure you have them wash their hands as soon as they get home from school. If you're not going home then give them a squirt of hand sanitizer to tie you over until you get home. If you know someone is sick then don't go over and visit them right away; wait until they started antibiotics or are no longer contagious.
Warding off winter time snuffles doesn't have to be a difficult thing. These are very simple measure and precautions that can be taken to keep you healthy and your body strong.
