Weight control, how to not let yourself go

Losing weight is a big challenge, keeping it off is an even bigger one. People work hard every day of their lives to lose those extra pounds they put on during the holiday seasons, or the extra pounds they're left with after they give birth. So if you've worked so hard to lose the extra weight, then why not work that much harder to keep it off?
Despite what many may believe, maintaining your new weight is not impossible. It just means that you have to burn the same calories that you're eating; using smaller portions, and choosing foods that are low in fat and sugars. Here are some tips on weight control, how to not let yourself go.

Tip #1: Stay Motivated
Motivation is the key to most things; without motivation there is no desire to get things done. What are your goals? Where do you want to be? Find something that motivates you and stick to it. Once you've reached your goal, then set another one so that you're always working towards something new. Don't ever let yourself just be happy with the here and now; there's always another challenge to be met.
Tip #2: Create a plan
If you've already lost the weight, then you must have had a fairly specific plan in meeting your weight goals. Maintaining your weight and not letting yourself go is no different. You can set up a daily plan for what meals you will cook, snack, exercise, etc. or you can set it up on a monthly basis. Whatever works best for you. Once you have your plan outlined then stick to it. Your master plan will help you stay true to your goals and motivations.
Tip #3: Regular and consistent exercise
Sure you've seen people that take diet pills, or drink the diet drinks and they look great on TV, but for how long? Dieting will always be a fad and the only way to really maintain your weight is to exercise daily. Consistency is the key with exercise; you can't expect to maintain a healthy weight without dedicating at least 15 to 30 minutes every day. Whether it's walking, running, aerobics, or lifting weights you need to be doing something active every day to keep the weight off so you don't let yourself go. Not only will it help you maintain a healthy weight but it will make you feel better.
Tip #4: Watch your diet
Of course weight control and not letting yourself go has a lot to do with what you eat and how you eat. Eat fewer calories by cutting down on your portion sizes and decreasing the amount of fat and sugar in your diet. Limit yourself on how much fatty foods, butter, and rich sauces you will eat and don't skip meals. Try eating between 4-5 mini meals a day instead of three large ones. Starving yourself is only going to make you feel deprived and increase the temptation to eat excessively. Keep temptation foods out of the house as much as possible and stick with low calorie, low fat snacks like raw vegetables, fruits, or rice cakes.
Tip #5: Keep a food journal
Keeping a food journal will help you figure out which foods you are eating too much or too little of. It can also help to figure out if your portion sizes are too big or to small, whether you're eating too much sugar; it will help you assess the food choices you are making. You can do web based journals which will make it extremely easy to count calories.
Weight control and not letting yourself go is an issue for more people than you might think. The key is finding your motivation, regular exercise, and establishing healthy eating habits. Unfortunately this is a challenge for just about everyone, so don't feel too bad when you slip up now and then. Just keep moving forward.
