What exercises to do for weight loss

Anyone could pay to go to the gym and have a personal trainer walk you through every exercise that would be best for your body. Most of us do not have the money or the time to be in the gym all day and are just looking for simple exercises that already fit into our routines.

Did you know that weight lifting and other muscle building exercises are some of the best things that you can do to loose weight? And you do not have to spend all day building muscle strength either, just 15 minutes! It's true, lean muscle tissue burns more calories than fat even when you are doing nothing more than sitting and enjoying a meal.

Of course some who want more quick or dramatic results will need to devote more time each day to exercising. But don't worry, even if you have no more than ten minutes a day and no gym membership, you can still do something to work your body and to loose weight.

For example, below are simple things that you can do depending on the amount of time that you can devote to them daily. Obviously it is best to be consistent and the shorter the interval of time that you spend exercising, the more often you will need to do it to see results.

Simple 10-15 minute exercise ideas:

  • Take a quick jog around the block or to the train/bus station. Have your running shoes with you so that you can take advantage of an opportunity to run somewhere instead of meandering there.

  • Jump rope, do jumping jacks, or run in place as quickly as you can.

  • Watch and participate to ten minutes of some type of exercise tape or television show. Make sure to really make those ten minutes count by working hard enough to break a sweat (without injuring yourself of course)

  • Climb up and down the steps (hold on to the hand rail on your way down).

  • Take a quick swim and do laps around the pool.

  • Put on your roller blades or skates and go around the block with the kids.

  • Play some kind of sport. Tag, baseball, tennis, and football are all easy to play a quick game of in the yard with the family.

  • If you only have 10-15 minutes a day to exercise, you need to be doing it 6 days a week.

Simple 20-30 minute exercise ideas:

  • Take a power walk (walk fast enough to almost be running, without letting both feet leave the ground.

  • Spend some time doing landscaping. Weed the garden, mow the lawn, rake the leaves or prune some shrubs.

  • Have a dance in the living room. Turn the music up and do whatever dance you know best. The kids will love this one.

  • Indoor cleaning can be good exercise too. Vacuum the house, mop the floors, refinish or polish furniture, cleaning may be more enjoyable if you are trying to work off some extra pounds at the same time.

  • When you bike for at least 30 minutes you can do so leisurely. Less time and you would really try to find some hills to make the ride more challenging.

  • In 30 minutes you can really get a good start on a basketball game, a Frisbee match or a Ping pong tournament.

  • Lift weights. Watch a 30 minute work-out video or television show or do some yoga.

  • Re-do a room by removing wallpaper, painting and cleaning.

Simple 30+ minute exercise ideas:

  • Prepare a meal and set the table. Believe it or not moving around the kitchen and adjacent rooms in the process of cooking a mal can be a good workout.

  • Spend more time doing an outdoor activity with your kids. Staying active is the key to easier weight loss.

  • Take your time when you go grocery shopping and walk around the store a couple of times.
