What is the AFAA and what do they have to do with aerobics?

AFAA stands for Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. It is well known as one of the leading aerobic fitness certification organizations. It is the world's largest fitness educator. It was established in 1983 and has their main office in California. It offers a large variety of workshops and certification programs throughout the world, but serves mainly in the United States.
A personal trainer has to go through intensive learning, promote his leadership skills, show a variety of aerobic presentations and have a good knowledge of the human anatomy if he wants to pass the AFAA testing. This certification guides the personal trainer to use his skills in a safe and suitable manner.

The AFAA exam includes a written exam and practical demonstrations. The written exam contains multiple choice and matching questions. In the practical demonstration, the applicant demonstrates his aerobic skills showing proper warm ups, aerobic exercise and muscle toning for different muscle groups.
Those who want to teach an aerobic class can certify themselves with the AFAA to further their career in the fitness industry. As an aerobic instructor, depending on what you teach, whether low or high impact aerobics, must be appropriate to the fitness level of the students. You need to know the challenges you are up against. You don't want to give the same workout to different age groups and different fitness levels. The music should be chosen wisely for the warm ups, the main exercise and the cool down. The AFAA gives approval of what you intend to share with the people who come to the class. As a certified personal trainer with the AFAA, you will be prepared:
- to challenge your students with new and different styles of aerobics,
- to keep them motivated to attend the class,
- to target areas of the body that need a little more toning and firming,
- to offer a fun and safe environment ,
- to gain ideas from different educators,
- to gain a knowledge of the human anatomy to answer questions from your students,
- to offer private classes with confidence,
- to teach different levels of fitness,
- to teach different age groups,
- and to offer different choreographies.
When you are certified with the AFAA, you have already established your credentials and can find a job at any gym. Clients like exercise with someone that they know is trained and certified. Keep in mind that it is almost impossible to teach aerobics every day for more than one class. You may want to consider teaching other classes such as yoga, pilates, and easier exercises.
