There are so many suggestions for what to eat when you are trying to loose weight that it is often times difficult to know where to start. There are countless diets of varying popularity and new diets are being created every day. There are pills and supplements that make different claims of being able to help you with your weight loss. And the list goes on. So as you look for a diet that you think will work for you or if you are just looking to eat foods that will help you live a healthier life, keep these basics of good nutrition in mind. You may be surprised just how easy it can be to loose weight by making a few simple dietary changes.
Substitutions
First and most important when you want to eat foods that will help you loose weight you must be willing to make substitutions. Substitute french fries with a baked potato and mayonnaise with low-fat yogurt. Be willing to cut down on your meat portion and instead substitute in more greens. Notice that you do not necessarily have to eliminate any of your favorite foods. Simply cutting back and finding healthier substitutions will do wonders to not only satisfy your taste buds but also your hunger.

Drinks
Sometimes because drinks are seemingly basic and uncomplicated people overlook just how big of an impact what you drink can have on your weight. Sodas, caffeine, and alcohol should all be avoided when you are trying to eat for weight loss. Even some juices are so high in sugar content that the additives outweigh the nutritional benefits. Stick to the basics: water and low-fat milk.
Whole Wheat
If you are a lover of grains than making changes to your diet may be scary. There are so many no-carb diets out there that grains have gotten a bad name. In reality grains are good for you and an essential part of your diet. Naturally whole grains and un-bleached flour is better than other types of grains. And, as with any food, grains should not bee the staple of your diet.
Fruits and vegetables
If have trouble eating for weight loss because you always feel hungry, eating fruits and vegetables to curb hunger are an excellent option for you. Eating for weight loss should have nothing to do with starving. Fruits and vegetables in and of themselves carry the necessary vitamins and minerals to cover almost every dietary need. Simply eating more fruits and vegetables will do more for your weight than eating any other foods.
Lean meats
Meat provides an excellent source of protein and even more important nutrient absorption benefits. Eating appropriate portion sizes of lean meats is just fine.
Nuts and beans
Raw nuts and non-fried beans will also provide your body with the nutrients it needs while carrying with it little negative effects.
Roasted or baked not fried
Fried foods should send a red flag up somewhere in your better judgment to let you know to stay away. Sure there are ways to eat healthier fried foods but avoiding them entirely is the best option. Besides with all the marinades, seasonings and roasting or baking types out there you can still have all the flavor without the grease.
Caloric intake
If you are the type of person who needs to or just likes to manage what you eat by counting calories make sure that you have spoken with your doctor about any specific needs that you may have. If you have a special medical need or are pregnant or nursing, your doctor will be able to give you a good idea of what your body needs to remain healthy.
