- Many people have heard that they can return to normal activity, including work, withing twenty four hours of the surgery. This might be true for some people, but it would probably be best to wait a bit longer. You should expect some sort of burning or itching in or around the eyes after the surgery, and your eyes will probably start watering. Your vision will probably also be blurry or unclear for a little while. These affects can continue for a day or two and during this time you might want to take some time off. You could also experience some pain in the eyes, for which you should obtain a pain killer. Regardless of the pain or discomfort resulting from the surgery, do not rub your eyes or touch them! This can do damage and cause infections that could seriously impaire your vision.
- You will probably see haloes and bits of light play across your eyes for the first few days. If this and other affects continue you will need to contact a doctor immediately. Many of the problems associated with eye surgery can be resolved if a doctor is informed quickly after they appear. Don't wait to contact a surgeon or doctor before the problem gets really serious.
- In the first week after the surgery make sure to avoid water striking your face directly, and avoid getting any soap or shampoo in your eye. Make sure to avoid using makeup, perfume, or cologne, and don't go swimming or sit in hot tubs. Avoid any strenuous exercise-especially anything that will cause you to get sweat in your eyes.
- In the first three, four, or five months you might experience some fluctuating vision. Make sure to see a doctor if there is a particularly severe problem. After the first month you should be able to swim with eye protection and exercise normally.
These are some of the basic things you can expect after lasik surgery. However, you should consult your doctor to find out what they expect to happen after the surgery. These doctors have performed many of these sorts of surgeries and they can tell you what to expect. Also realize that because every person's eyes are different, they will probably respond to the surgery differently. The most important thing for you to do is to stay in close contact with your doctor and inform them if you think anything unusaul is occuring. Don't hesitate to call-your eyes are obviously very important and you deserve to get the finest care available. Good luck with that lasik surgery!
