Do you want to start doing aerobics? That's great! Aerobics are a great form of exercise, and they are an important way for you to keep your heart happy and healthy! There are a couple of different forms of aerobics, but they all work towards getting your heart to move! If you are a beginner at aerobics, there are a couple of things that you need to do. Here are the things that you need to do if you are an aerobics beginner:

  1. Look into the type of class that you would like to try: There are a lot of different types of aerobic activities, such as water aerobics, dance aerobics, and step aerobics. As a beginner, you will need to decide which type of aerobics that seems most interesting to you. Each of these types of aerobics can be done at a beginner level, but you should know that water aerobics often is the easiest for beginners to try. Water aerobic movements are usually slower than other types of aerobic movements, and this can give you practice with your coordination. In addition, it also can give you a chance for your muscles to begin developing and strengthening! Remember, you can start with one form of aerobics and later switch to trying a different form later!
  2. Make sure that you start or enroll in a "beginner" or low impact aerobic activity: After you have decided on the type of aerobic form that you would like to try out, you will want to enroll or start at a "beginner" or "low impact" level. You can find a lot of aerobic videos that are indicated to be at a low impact level. Or, if you work out with an aerobic television show, make sure that you follow the instructor that is doing the movements at a low impact or beginner level. If you sign up for a class, make sure that the aerobic class is at this level. If not, you could end up getting frustrated with the aerobics and quitting. Even worse, starting at an aerobic level that is not correct for you could also be unhealthy and potentially dangerous.
  3. Let your instructor know that you are a beginner: If you enroll in a class, it is important to let your instructor know that you are just starting to do aerobics. Your instructor will have helpful tips and ideas for you, and he or she will also be able to watch you more closely during class. This way, he or she will be able to let you know if you are doing movements incorrectly. You don't want to make sure that you are doing aerobic movements wrong while you work out, because this can be harmful for your body! However, if you let your instructor know that you're just starting out, he or she can make sure that you are doing things correctly and safely.
  4. Don't give up! Sometimes it can be frustrating to start a new type of activity - especially if you never have had practice with that activity before. Aerobics can take a little bit of work and practice to get used to. Take your time, and don't get frustrated if you aren't able to keep up with your instructor right at the beginning. Aerobics will get easier with time. If anything - don't give up on doing aerobics! Your heart needs to you do aerobic activity. If you ever feel frustrated and too embarrassed to continue doing aerobics, try exercising with only one aerobic video for a while. This way, you will get to know the routine and the movements well. After practicing with a video for a while, you might be ready to try going back to a class.
