When to use a yoga DVD

Yoga has been around for hundreds of years, and the number of people who begin yoga as a form of exercise is growing every day. Entire studios are being opened that are devoted to just yoga, and many gyms offer multiple yoga classes every day.

Another indication of the popularity of yoga is the fact that many yoga DVDs exist as well, for all types of yoga and all skill levels.
When should I use a yoga DVD?
A yoga DVD can be a great alternative to the traditional yoga class. If you are considering starting yoga or you already practice, the following are a few reasons and circumstances you many want to use a yoga DVD:
- You don't have access to a gym. Not every city or town has a gym that is convenient to get to. Even if they do, not all of them have yoga classes available. When this is the case, a yoga DVD can provide all of the benefits of a yoga class without having to go to a gym.
- You can't afford or don't want to pay for a gym. Gym memberships are expensive, no doubt about it - most of them run around $30 a month or more for a single membership, but can be as high as $70 or $80 a month, depending on the amenities provided. This doesn't include sign-up fees, processing fees, and the other fees gyms or health clubs often bombard you with when you first sign up. At under $20 apiece, yoga DVDs are a much more affordable alternative.
- You want to try a variety of different types of yoga. There are many different types of yoga, and purchasing or renting different yoga DVDs are a great way to learn some of the various methods of yoga. If you'd like to do this, check with you local library or video rental store to see if they have yoga DVDs to borrow or rent inexpensively. That way, you can try them out before you purchase them.
- You don't have time for a class. Yoga classes in gyms, health clubs, or studios typically run about an hour. In addition to that, you also have to factor in the time it takes to get to and from the gym. Yoga DVDs can be anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour, so you can choose the length that best fits your schedule.
- You prefer the privacy of your home. Using a yoga DVD will allow you to exercise and practice yoga from your own home. Some people are uncomfortable exercising in front of many people, or are intimidated by a gym setting. A yoga DVD will give you the benefits of yoga without having to leave your home.
- You have a demanding schedule. If you like yoga but can't schedule your entire day around one or two classes at your local gym, you should use a yoga DVD. This way, you can still do yoga, but you can do it at a time that is best suited to you and your schedule.
There are a number of reasons you should use a yoga DVD. They are inexpensive and even free sometimes, if you borrow them from a friend or rent them from the library. Yoga DVDs are a great option for people who don't want to pay for a gym and would prefer to practice yoga in the privacy of their own home and at their own schedule.
