Regular aerobic exercise can improve your health and fitness and also reduce body fat. Your body uses oxygen to produce energy for physical activity such as aerobic exercise. When the body breaks down fat and glucose combined with oxygen is when aerobic metabolism occurs. Aerobic exercise can be performed at the gym or in the privacy of your home. Performing aerobics in your home is a convenient way to workout regularly.

You will no longer need to worry about missing aerobic classes, and paying gym fees when you perform your aerobic workout at home. But you will need to purchase aerobic equipment, which can be costly. Here are some tips to help you find inexpensive aerobic equipment for your home:

  1. First, identify your fitness requirements. Try to find aerobic equipment that is suitable for as many members of your family as possible. You and your family's chosen activities should be enjoyable and at the same time, these activities should be challenging so that you will be able to progress to higher levels. You will not use aerobic equipment that you find boring. In order to achieve all around fitness, you should purchase both aerobic and strength training equipment. Equipment such as running machines, exercise bikes and skiing type machines are all great for improving your aerobic fitness, but all you really need is a good pair of shoes and a place to run to get the same workout offered by these machines. Equipment resistance should be low enough to maintain at least 20 minutes of continuous smooth motion, if an aerobic workout is you main goal. To improve your aerobic fitness and burn calories, this is the type of exercise needed.
  2. If you are on a tight budget, a skipping rope, resistance band and exercise mat is all the equipment needed to keep you fit for around $20.00. If you are able and willing to spend a few more dollars used equipment is a good option. Look in the local classified section for exercise equipment, also check out yard sales. If you are patient, you will eventually find the equipment you are looking for and for the price you want to pay. If you do not want to wait, you can still find new exercise equipment that is inexpensive. When buying aerobic exercise equipment keep in mind if a product is cheap, there is usually a reason, find out what that reason is. It may be that the item has been discontinued, so if it happens to break, you may not be able to get parts. It may also be cheap because it is mass produced in a third world country or it could be that the item is garbage. But sometimes when an updated equipment model is coming out, you can get a bargain on the previous model.
  3. Make sure the room you will be putting the exercise equipment in is safe. Low ceilings should be avoided because they can be hit when lifting weights. The room should have good lighting and fresh airflow. The room floor should be non-slip and you should also plan for open space. Open space should be equal to equipment space.
  4. Check the exercise equipment for safety and serviceability. Equipment parts should be easily removed and replaced. The equipment should also be comfortable, adjustable and able to accommodate users of various sizes. Before using exercise equipment, read the manual or instructions thoroughly. This will show the correct way to use the equipment. Use equipment according to the manufacturer's guidelines to lessen the chances of injury.
  5. And finally, choose equipment that you find interesting and enjoy using. The exercise equipment should motivate you and be a beneficial part of your aerobic workout.
