Treadmills are great tools for exercise. They allow you to program specific workouts and to save valuable workout time. They are so convenient, and especially in places where running outside is difficult. This can be particularly nice in the winter, when running in the cold can be both painful and dangerous. Many people do not know this, but treadmills are also generally better for the joints than running outdoors. This depends on what substance you would normally be running on, but many treadmills provide much great cushion, thereby lessening the impact than each step makes. Recognized by many as one of the best forms of aerobic exercise, treadmills can help you achieve your fitness goals, and often in the comfort of your own home. You have seen the big treadmills at the gym and are probably thinking that treadmills are great, but how will I ever fit one in my house? Standard gym treadmills are fairly large and take up several square feet of room. For most of us this is simply too much space. You might be able to afford a nice, big treadmill, but finding a place to put it is another matter. So what about a folding treadmill? If you are looking to conserve space while gaining many of the exercise benefits of a normal treadmill, you might want to look at a folding treadmill.

You should always consult a doctor before starting any new form of exercise, or when changing the form of exercise that you are practicing.

Folding treadmills were once seen as dangerous because they were not as stable as regular treadmills. Overall this is still true, but more recent folding treadmills are much safer than they used to be. As with any product, you will want to test it before buying so that you make sure it is safe to use in your own home.

Most people who buy folding treadmills do so because they cannot spare the space in their homes for a normally sized treadmill. Folding treadmills, when fully folded up, are much, much smaller than a regular treadmill, and will save you lots of space. Folding treadmills are also generally cheaper than regular treadmills, which makes them a bit more attractive to those who do not have lots of money. You should be advised that buying a cheep treadmill just to save money is not a good idea. Cheep folding treadmills are probably not very good and may break easily. Make sure to get a decent model if you are serious about safety and working out. Talk to a couple of different health professionals and see what they recommend.

There are a couple of other factors to consider if you are going to buy a folding treadmill. If you are a professional athlete you might not want to go with a folding treadmill as they are not as sturdy and may not meet all of your fitness needs. A profession should use a large, full treadmill that has many different options and that will hold up under extreme stress. Check the instructions and specifications for each treadmill before you buy it to make sure that you are buying the best machine for you.

Also, remember that despite the space saving feature, the folding treadmill can be difficult to fold and heavy. Make sure that you can lift it or move it with ease, and that it folds easily. If you know that you will be moving frequently, then you might want to reconsider buying a very heavy model. Some folding models weigh several hundred pounds. If you cannot lift or move the folding treadmill, then a folding treadmill is not for you.
