A comparison of garden tillers

One of the most important tools that you can have as a gardener is a garden tiller. Tillers make gardening infinitely easier, and tillers are extremely important in the early spring when you are preparing your garden. A garden tiller is absolutely necessary for you to be able to break up the soil where you are going to plant your garden, and also to till your compost into your soil so that you can grow bigger and better plants. However, there is a pretty dizzying array of different garden tiller options out there for you to choose from. What type of garden tiller is best for you?

Should you buy a large or a small garden tiller? Ultimately, it decides on how big your garden is. If you want a small garden, or you have to have a small garden due to space constraints, then you will want the most maneuverable garden tiller that you can find. You can actually get electric mini-garden tillers, which are perfect for small spaces. But if you have a larger garden area, then you will want the garden tiller that can till the deepest and the widest. A tiller that can tiller deeper and wider will help you finish your tilling job faster.
Different types of small garden tillers
There are a number of different types of small garden tillers. For example, you can purchase an electric garden tiller or a gas-powered garden tiller. Here are some of the pros and cons of both electric and gas powered small garden tillers.
One of the major pros of small garden tillers is that they are so light weight. This makes it much easier for you to handle your garden tiller, which can be a major difficulty with the larger garden tillers. Also, almost all small garden tillers allow you to change the depth and the width of the tiller's tines. Because you can adjust the tine depth and the tine width, then your small garden tiller will give you the amount of maneuverability that is absolutely necessary if you are gardening in a small space.
There are some cons to small garden tillers. The major con is simply that small garden tillers don't really work well for larger garden spaces. A large garden tiller can help you get the job in maybe half of the time as a small garden tiller, if not even faster.
So what about gas powered small garden tillers? Gas powered small garden tillers usually have either a one horsepower or a 2 horsepower engine. You can change the depth of the cultivator usually up to 5 inches. You can also change the width of the tines of your small garden tiller from 6 inches to 9 inches so that you can maneuver your small garden tiller into smaller spots. The majority of gas powered small garden tillers will also have folding handles so that you can easily store away your small garden tiller, which is especially important in limited space. And electric garden tillers can weigh a very, very slight 11 pounds! However, you can't use a small garden tiller for any land that has not already been tilled; small garden tillers can only work on already cultivated land.
So what about large garden tillers? Larger garden tillers are even better if you need to reseed a very large lawn. If you have rockier soil, or if you need to till deeply, then you will really need a large garden tiller so that you can really till your soil. If you will need to till an area that is larger than 300 square feet, then you will want a large garden tiller. However, some of the major cons of large garden tillers is that they will be expensive, they are bulky, and they are heavy. They are difficult to maneuver. But they do have a swath that will anywhere from 14 inches to 21 inches wide. If you are not going to be using your large garden tiller very often, then you will probably want to rent your tiller for just a day or so.
When you think about what type of garden tiller you want to buy, don't forget about different attachments. Look at the attachments that come with each different type of tiller, and think about what types of attachments you will want.
