There are lots of spot cleaning products out there on the market today. You have so much variety that it can be mind boggling. Here are some of the best spot cleaning products that you can buy today.
First off, water and a rag always works. If you have something on the floor that spills, and it is the same color as the carpet, then don't worry. Just get a rag, put some water and maybe a little bit of hand soap, and clean it up. You don't have to worry about getting out something that you got to right away and that won't make any difference. You want the space to still be clean though, so do use water and soap to clean it up.

The Resolve brand of carpet cleaners is one of my favorites. They have a bunch of different products that really work well. You can clean your whole carpet with it or just spots or certain areas. They have products that are cheaper than others so that you don't have to spend a ton of money for a quality product. They really work well in getting out stains that have been there for a while or just a few minutes.
Carpet cleaning machines are also great. They help to rinse out and clean a certain area of carpet. These are better for larger areas but they still work great on spot cleaning. If you are thinking about cleaning your carpets, just get a machine, they sometimes have spot cleaning solutions there that you can use with the machine. Use the machine more on the areas that need spot cleaning. Don't go over a certain area too much though, or you will end up with a different color of carpet than the rest of the area.

If you have an extra piece of carpet from when you put in the carpet, test your carpet cleaning product on that. Wait a few hours until it is completely dry. Then check to make sure that nothing has changed and that everything is the same color. If it is, then go ahead and clean your carpet. If not, buy a different kind of remover.
