When it comes down to it, whether or not you are going to use bright paint colors in your house is up to you and should be determined by your personality. There are problems with bright paints, especially because you might paint four whole walls and then realize that the entire effect makes you want to cry, and it would have been better to simply paint an accent wall.
Here are some tips on how you can choose your paint color, whether you choose to go with bright paint colors or not.
First of all, when you go to the paint store, take samples with you of everything that will be in your room. You need to match your paint with your furniture, your pillows, your carpet, and your curtains--how are you going to be able to match the colors if you don't have them all there in front of you?
Secondly, when you are looking at different colors and trying to decide which one, look at the entire color family. You might think that eggshell and egg white are the same color, but if you look at the darker shades you might see that one has more blue undertones while the other is more pink. This doesn't make a difference on a paint sample, but it does when you've painted all four walls.
Thirdly, remember that colors dry differently than they look in the can. Paint just a small section of your wall, in an out of the way place. Paint a small area, and then let it dry. When it's done, then make sure that you like the final result. Another tip is to paint one entire wall before moving to other walls. Once you've got that bright paint up on just one side of your room, you might realize that's enough of that color and you can stop there. Bright colors usually work better as accents anyway, because otherwise they may be too overwhelming and they can take over the room. Rooms that are that overpowering will be uncomfortable for you to be in, so be judicious in your color selection and where you use that color.
