- Water-Nothing says outdoors like the sound of running water. Since it simply isn't practical to set up your living room as an indoor pool you will need to think a little smaller. Today there is a wide variety of smaller water features-some that can even sit on the middle of your dining room table. Table top fountains come in a variety of sizes, styles and price ranges so there will be the perfect one for you. Or if you are feeling adventurous check out some small fountains that can be hooked up indoors and stand alone. Just be sure to choose one that reflects your idea of serene and tranquil to begin your process of bringing the outdoors in.
- Plants-The easiest way to bring the feel of the outdoors in is by filling your home with plants. Plants bring a freshness that can't be duplicated in any other way. Consulting with a local grower or florist can help you find plants that will flourish in your climate. Studies have even found that people who have plants inside their homes feel an increased sense of well-being. Don't limit yourself to only small tabletop plants today's growers even have trees especially designed to live indoors. For an added bonus choose plants that flower to boost the color inside your home. And don't forget to pot your plants in fun containers. Buckets, pitchers and even old antique terracotta bowls can make fun and interesting planters for your plants.
- Grilling-You may be wondering how you can get that great grilled food of summer if you don't have a full-sized grill. The good news is that today you have that great grilled flavor all year round. Manufacturers now have lots of grill pans that work right on your stove. While it may not be the exact same thing as grilling outside it comes pretty close. Your hotdogs, hamburgers and chicken can impress your guests with those wonderful grill marks you gave them right on the stove. For the devoted grill master there are even stovetop smokers for that full on smoked flavor. And the best part of all purchasing a stovetop grill or smoker won't ruin your summer budget.
- Get the right tunes-Promoting those warm weather months inside your home is never easier than if you have the right tunes. If you don't have a way to play music indoors consider a small investment to up the outdoor quotient indoors. Whether you choose to dock your iPod or simply invest in an "old school boom box" you can give the indoors that outdoor feeling with the right music. Reggae, jazz, or old school rock can give you that summer feeling even when you are indoors. Once you have the right tunes in place you invite your family and friends over to help you celebrate the start of the warm weather season even if you are indoors!
