Budget friendly ways to decorate your outdoor space

walkway30364872.jpg Homeowners today are not limited to expressing their style inside the four walls of their home. Today almost any outdoor space can be turned into an outdoor room that reflects your style, whether it is a patio, deck or concrete pad. Decorating experts stress though that before you begin decorating, you should consider how you will use your outdoor space. It is important to ask yourself-Will you be using your room for entertaining, relaxing or dining? Also be sure that you take note of weather changes and if the spot is sunny, shady, windy, etc. Do you need waterproof and sun-resistant materials, or an umbrella or other shelter (such as protections against mosquito or other pests)? Once you have got the basics figured out you are ready to create your outdoor room. But if you are worried that having an outdoor space is difficult to decorate or worse to expensive here are some budget friendly ways to decorate your outdoor space-

Make It Private-Your outdoor room will require structure just as an indoor room to help provide intimacy and comfort. If you are looking for some money-saving solutions for adding "walls" try: anchoring a wooden trellis in a large planter and hanging small pots of colorful flowers throughout; attaching sheer fabric panels to porch overhangs with metal hoops and hooks; or propping a reclaimed garden gate behind a bench or against a deck railing. This can give you the illusions of privacy for a fraction of the cost of building a permanent structure.

Outdoor Furniture Options-The biggest cost of your outdoor room is the furniture. Furnishing an outdoor room can quickly add up, but if you are willing to use some creativity and some elbow grease it will save your budget. Try visiting flea markets and find inexpensive furniture to paint or otherwise repurpose. Colorful spray paints are also great for plastic furniture and do not require priming. You can also dress up other pieces with slipcovers and outdoor fabric pillows.

Mood Lighting-It is important to keep in mind that outdoor rooms are used during the evening so providing lighting needs to be considered. But you do not have to pay for an expensive lighting system to light up your garden, yard or patio if you are willing to think out of the box. You may want to consider reusing Christmas lights to add interesting, subtle lighting to an outdoor room. Design experts also suggest candles, oil torch lamps and even solar panels. This works especially well if the space gets a lot of light during the day because you can then install solar lighting that collects sunlight during the day and comes on at night.

Outdoor Accessories-Accessories should be considered as the jewelry of any room and this includes outdoor rooms. Being creative can not only keep costs low but allows you to place a personal stamp on your outdoor space. Design experts recommend using lots of color in paint, flowers, fabric. And do not hesitate to go to the dollar store. It can be a treasure trove of inexpensive items you can use to decorate your space. Interesting and fun pots, bowls, garden ornaments, baskets and lanterns can even be found for under $5. If you do not want to purchase an outdoor rug you can paint a faux rug on a patio floor using stencils and ordinary house paint. Just be sure to seal it with polyurethane for a long lasting accent. Another inexpensive option is to create your rug on a canvas runner instead so it's portable. With just a little creativity and work you can spend a few dollars on a brick stencil and paint, and create a faux-brick look on the concrete floor. Also for that finishing touch do not forget to add inexpensive, weather-resistant items to the room, like candles, sap buckets and even some artwork on the walls. Then all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the warm weather months.
