Building a unique flower bed

Building a unique flower bed is fun and interesting, but can also mean a lot of time. It's a great way to add some extra beauty to your home. To start your flower bed, you need to choose a location that you want to place your flower bed. Take some time to check out the areas around your house. When looking at your locations, think of how you can make your flower bed unique with a different shape. When you have narrowed down the locations that you like, ask yourself a few questions before you begin planting. Is there to little or too much sunlight that hits this area, is there a water source available to keep your flower bed hydrated with water and will the size I want be able to fit? Once you have determined that this is the place, get yourself started.
After you have chosen the location you are going to put your flower bed, draw out the size and shape you want.
Use marking paint or a hose to make out your flower bed. To make your flower bed unique, try different shapes and consider building your flower bed above ground in flower boxes or some homemade wooden boxes. Once you have decided what your flower bed is going to look like, get to work on clearing the area for your flower bed.

If there is grass, you will have to pull the grass up and work the dirt below into mulch. This will help keep out some of the weeks. If you don't want to dig up grass, you can also use a spray on grass or weed killer. Using grass or weed killer may delay your flower bed. Most killers take a week to kill the grass completely and it is not safe to plant anything in that area for a couple of months to a year. The grass or week killer you use can also be harmful to humans and pets, be sure to read the label and instructs before using.
Once you have your area cleared, you are ready to plant your unique flower bed. Choose different types of flowers and plants you want to use. Use a variety of colors and a variety of plants that bloom different times of the year. Doing so, your flower bed will always be in bloom with something new. Add different things to your flower bed. A flower bed is just not for flowers and plants. You can add all types of items that will make your flower bed stand out. You can add a waterfall in the middle of your flowers or a water fountain sculpture with flowers and greenery surrounding it. Look into adding a small tree that grows small and slow into your flower bed also. Having a tree in your flower bed will help to produce natural mulch that will be added into your soil.
If you have chosen to use boxes for your flower bed, paint the boxes different colors that will be eye catching. You can also set them up in different patterns and areas throughout your yard that will make your flowers pop out.
If you want to use something other than boxes, you can plant your flowers in buckets, clay pots or even an old whiskey barrel. Whichever you chose, make sure you have a few small holes in the bottom to help drain water and moisture out. You don't want to over water your flowers either. Having a unique flower bed requires time and patience to look the way you want. Don't be afraid to make changes to your flower bed as you go.
