Appliances are the best. If you did not have some of the basic appliances your life would be much more difficult, wouldn't it? Before we had dryers it was much more difficult to get those clothes dry. You had to hang them out on a line. But that was only when the weather was fairly good. What happened during most of the year when it was too cold or when it was raining or snowing? The fact was that you had to hang your clothing up over a wood burning stove. This meant that you also had to find and cut wood in order to get that stove going. So without a dryer you would have had to do tremendous amounts of work just to keep your clothes dry. You would have spent hours that would have been better spent doing other work such as making more money. So because these things are so valuable you should definitely keep yours in good condition. There are certain modern marvels that we could not do without. Those of us who have not lived with a garbage disposal know how difficult it is. You always have to be so careful about what you put in the sink. It is almost impossible to keep the drain from becoming clogged. You end up spending tons of money just trying to keep your drain clean. You also have to deal with all of those terrible smells that come out of the drain. Appliances are great! Without them we would have to work so much more. Most of us are not aware that we take most things for granted. We go about our daily business without doing lots of menial work but we don't know that most of the tasks that take us only a few minutes once required people hours and hours to perform. Just washing and drying clothes could take a few days. And even when you worked at it for hours and hours or days and days it did not mean that you got a finished product that was as good as something you might have got from a machine. Tools would have broken down easily and you would have found yourself spending almost all of your time just working to keep the basic necessities going. Furnaces are a very important part of modern life. People lived for thousands of years before they were invented, but we now know how much easier it is to live with these sorts of machines. What would life be like without AC? Most of us don't have to think about this question so we don't realize that AC is a truly wonderful invention. Not that long ago people had to deal with brutally hot summers and they were basically uncomfortable all summer long. They would try to find other ways to deal with the heat, like sleeping in particular parts of the house, but this only helped so much. Frankly it was a difficult thing for them to deal with and we are very privileged to have air conditioning to make our lives that much more comfortable during the really hot times of the year. There are a lot of different things that you will want to make sure that you keep in good repair around your house. When choosing your cook top for your house, you have the choice between gas and electric. Each type of power has benefits and drawbacks:

Gas cook tops-
 Gas cook tops are convenient in that they give you more precise temperature control than electric cook tops.
 Kitchens with gas appliances must have proper ventilation.
 To have a gas appliance you have to have a gas line, so if you do not already have a gas line, you will have to re-plumb your house. This can be costly or impractical. So, unless you have it, this is not a really viable option.
 You will have to talk to your local gas company to get a gas cook top.

You need to keep the areas that are hard to reach clean of build up. The build up can turn into bacteria which can then contaminate your clean dishes. The hard to reach areas include the door jam on the dishwasher door, the top of the sides of the dishwasher and the very top of the dishwasher. Since these parts are plastic and can cause bacteria to build up you will want to use a disinfectant when cleaning these areas. How does a water softener work? First, we have to look at what soft water (vs. hard water) is.
Hard water is water that has significant amounts of either calcium or magnesium.
