Containers for small space gardening
Just because you have a small space for your garden that doesn't mean that, you can't create a garden. One way to take advantage of gardening in small spaces is to use containers in the small spaces. Containers actually give you the chance to experiment and try different plants. With containers if you are not happy with how the plant is, doing you can simply remove it and try something else.

With containers, it is entirely possible to create an entire garden. The one thing that you need to be careful of is choosing the right plants for your garden. Not all plants will be happy inside of containers, but there are still quite a few to choose from to help create the perfect mix for your container garden. A huge benefit about using containers to create your garden is that you don't even have to have a yard to have a garden; all you need is sidewalk or a patio area that you can use to place your containers.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when creating a container garden.
Tip one:
You want to create balance and contrast in your container garden. One way to help create balance and contrast is to make sure that the plants are sized to the pots and that the pots are sized to the area they are going to be placed in. For example, if you place small plants in a large pot the plants will end up getting lost in the pot, the same way a small pot will get lost on a large deck. When buying plants for containers the plants shouldn't be more than twice the height of the pot or 1 ½ times as wide as the pot. When using decorated containers you want to use simple plants to fill the containers, for simple containers choose flamboyant plants.
Tip two:
Color is another thing that you need to think about when creating a garden from containers. You want to choose a range of plants that are going to suit your choice of colors to the area you are using. The colors you choose will depend on what type of message you are trying to send through your garden/ For example, if you want drama and impact you want to go for contrasting colors, which are colors that are opposite of one another on the color wheel. If you are going for harmony and tranquility, you want to stay with one color, but buy plants in different shades. If you plan on buying colored containers to add color to your garden you need to avoid using trailing plants because that will hide the colors of the container.
Tip three:
You will want to use foliage as the base or bones of your container garden. You can find interest in the foliage by choosing different foliage for color, texture, and size of the leaves. For example, use Hostas for bold, textured leaves and Coleus for color. You will also need to create a focal point within a mixed container. The focal point is going to something that draws the eye to the plant because of its height, bold leaves, or striking color. When creating a focal point you will want to create one for each container or you can create a focal point using a group of containers. For example, each container will contain one large plant and you place them together to focus on one of the plants.
The point of container gardens is that they are a perfect place to have fun while experimenting with different plants. When creating a container garden you can use whatever plants, you like, including vegetables and herbs.
