Create a new kitchen backsplash

backsplash63500621.jpgInvesting in your kitchen will give you the number one return upon investment. The kitchen is the focal point of the home. Your family spends time in the kitchen preparing meals, eating meals and doing homework. Updating your kitchen can also cost an amount of money that you do not have right now. Change simple items throughout your kitchen to get a new, fresh updated look. One of the many options you can add to your kitchen is a new backsplash.

Selecting a new backsplash will be the hardest part of adding a new backsplash. There are a multitude of different options available for you to choose from. Find a style of backsplash that is going to fit your style and your kitchen. Many backsplashes will make your kitchen pop out from the rest of the house. As you begin your search, stay committed to the theme you have chosen, whether it is contemporary or modern, the backsplash will start your theme process as you continue to remodel your kitchen.

As you make the decision about the backsplash you are going to use, take into consideration the colors, texture and patterns that you are selecting. The color that you are choosing will need to go with your current cabinets, countertops and appliances. If the color does not compliment these items in your kitchen, your kitchen will not appear put together and can look cluttered. The texture of the backsplash will need to stay consistent with the theme in your kitchen or your home. For a contemporary look, select a stone backsplash that has an uneven texture. This will give your kitchen a rustic and old look that will fit with the remainder of your kitchen. Selecting a pattern on a backsplash can create a busy look in your kitchen. Find a pattern that will help your kitchen flow with the style that has already been created. If you have a bold backsplash and bold cabinets, your kitchen will overwhelm itself.

Before you choose the backsplash you want to have installed, make sure the countertops you have in your kitchen are countertops you are planning on keeping. When you install the backsplash and decide later to have your countertops replaced, you may lose the backsplash you invested your money into. Changing your countertops out will need to be done before you have your backsplash picked out and installed. The theme and texture of your countertops will need to stay consistent with your kitchen and your future backsplash.

Now that you have your countertops completed and the backsplash that you want to install, you need to take measurement of where you are going to install your backsplash. You will also need to decide what your backsplash is going to cover. Do have you an empty space on a wall in between two cabinets? Is the backsplash going to go all the way the wall, stay empty or only go half way up? Have these questions answered before you purchase your materials and start to install them. A normal measurement of a backsplash is between 16 and 18 inches between the countertop and cabinets.

The outlets and switches you have in your home will need to be taken into consideration when you install the backsplash. Your backsplash will need to allow these items to still function properly. Moving the outlets and switches can create more work for you. You will have to cut new holes into the drywall and patch the existing holes. Leaving them undone will create more work for you in the future and could case electric problems. Adding an outlet strip is an option that many home owners are starting to use. This will lower the amount of outlets that will have to be moved.
