Start by painting your front door. Keep the paint on your front door fresh. Add a new coat of paint each summer after the winter months. Lightly sand your door and add a fresh coat of paint. You can use the same color of paint you have used in the past or use a new paint color each year. This will give your home a new look for each year and the decorations you use on your front door will appear different than the year before. Don't forget to paint the frame around your door. The frame is often times overlooked. Paint the door frames the same color or use a different shade of the same color to help your door pop out even more.
Using a wreath is the most common ways to decorate a door for the holidays. If you need to save money, purchase a wreath that can withstand the weather and one that does not have any embellishments on it. When each holiday approaches, add a piece of the holiday onto the wreath. For Thanksgiving, use tie wire to apply some small gourds or Indian corn to make your wreath have autumn look you are trying to achieve. For each holiday, find the unique feature that you love and place it onto your wreath. By using different items that you can attach and detach, you can change your wreath for not only each holiday, but each holiday you can have a different theme.
Christmas is a special time of year and the best time that you can use to have your family together. Help celebrate the many traditions of Christmas by wrapping your front door up as a present. By using a water resistant wrapping paper, the paper will last through the cold winter days and nights and also withstand the snow you may receive. Use a giant bow and ribbon to place on your door with the wrapping paper. Your front door will be the biggest present on your neighborhood block.
There are many different holidays' stickers that you can purchase to place on your front door. Find the stickers that you can use, take off and reuse with each new holiday. Check with your local craft store to see if they can make a specific type of decoration you are looking for. Create an Easter basket that is full of candy or a shamrock that you can use on your front door for St Patrick's Day. If you have a metal door, look for different magnets that you can place on your front door.
Don't limit to decorating only your door for the holidays. Use the porch that is around your front door. When you use the porch, you can add more elements that pertain to the holidays. For Halloween and Thanksgiving, find straw bales and corn husks to place around your front door and your porch. Add different sizes of pumpkins or gourds to make your door have the extra color. During the winter months, have your children build a snowman that can be placed right by your front door. Involve your entire family to help you create the best front door for the holidays.
