There are few people who plant fruit and vegetable gardens without the hope of enjoying their crop at the end of the season. Instead, most people specifically plant fruits and vegetables because they want to eat them at the harvest! Fewer things can be tastier than to eat food that is fresh from the garden. In order to get a plentiful harvest, there are some things that you will need to do while caring for your garden. Some of these activities will need to take place months before you even plant your garden! Here is some gardening advice for a plentiful harvest:

  1. Compost - Mix compost in your garden soil the fall before you actually plant your vegetable garden. Then, during the cold months when it rains and snows, your compost will be able to decompose and enrich the soil for your garden. Some people prefer to place a layer of compost over the top of their garden soil as well, so that the ground will keep a little warmer during the winter as well. You can make your own compost, or you can purchase compost to place in your yard. If you are interested in making your own compost, then you can look into using fallen autumn leaves, yard clippings, or vegetable and fruit peelings. If you mix compost into your yard, you will definitely have a better chance of having a plentiful harvest!
  2. Fertilizer or nutrients - Another way that you can help to ensure that you have a plentiful harvest is by using some type of fertilizer or nutrient supplement for your vegetable or fruits. Miracle Gro is one of the popular types of "plant food" supplements which can help you to have a plentiful harvest at the end of the season. Many people have expressed that their plants are infinitely larger and more abundant because of nutrient supplements and fertilizers. You should make sure that you follow the instructions on your fertilizer or plant food, however. If you add to much plant food or fertilizer, you could end up "burning" or damaging your plant, even to the point of killing it! If you follow the instructions, however, you should be fine.
  3. Follow the planting instructions - Following the planting instructions is also a good way to ensure that you will have a plentiful harvest at the end of the season. It is especially important to make sure that you give your plant all of the space that it needs. This information is indicated in the "spacing instructions" that come with your seed packet or starter plant. If your vegetable or fruit is placed too close to other plants or garden borders, it may not have the space needed to spread out and grow! However, if you give your plant the space it needs, you will have a better chance of having a plentiful harvest.
  4. Follow the plant care instructions - In addition to following the planting instructions, you also need to follow the other care instructions for your plants! This means that you need to make sure that your plants have the right amount of sunlight and water. If your garden space does not work well for a certain type of plant or fruit, then you are putting yourself at risk for not having a plentiful harvest, even if you fertilize your plant and do everything else that you can do take care of it. Remember, you can't force a plant to grow in a place that is not suited for it!

These are a couple of tips to help you have a plentiful harvest at the end of your growing season! Good luck with growing your fruits and vegetables!
