Children, elderly people, middle age people and teens all enjoy to garden. Gardening is an especially good hobby for teens to have, because they are old enough to assume responsibility and handle the physical work that sometimes is a part of gardening. Here is a little bit of information about gardening for teens:

- Make sure that the teen can take care of the garden: Teens sometimes have a really busy schedule, especially if they are involved in a lot of sports or extra curricular activities. Even during the summer months, teens can be busy with summer jobs or vacations. If a teen wants to take care of a garden, make sure that he or she will have enough time to dedicate to taking care of the garden. Usually gardening requires a little bit of work each day, even if it is something as simple as watering the garden. If a garden is neglected, even for a short amount of time, it can kill the plants in the garden.
- Decide what kind of garden you want: Some teens like to grow flower gardens, while others prefer to grow vegetable or fruit gardens. In fact, some teens prefer to grow vegetable or fruit gardens so that they can sell their crop at the end of the summer! If you are a teenager that is interested in selling your crop at the end of the summer, then you could think of gardening as part of your job for the summer! There are a lot of people who love to buy home-grown and fresh vegetables in the summer, and you might be able to make a good profit from that money!
- Read the planting instructions: Before teens can do any kinds of planting, they will need to read all of the planting instructions. When shopping for plants, you will need to take into consideration what types of plants will be able to work well in your garden space, and the planting instructions will help you to find the right plants. The planting instructions will be found on the back of the seed packet or on a little tab that is stuck in the soil of the starter plant. The planting instructions will indicate how deep the flower should be planted in the ground, as well as how far the flowers should be spaced from each other. In addition, planting information is especially important because it tells you what amount of sunlight the plant needs. If you have a garden bed that is in the full sun or shade, then you will want to buy plants that will be able to grow well in those types of environments.
- Decide if you want an organic garden: Some teens prefer to have organic vegetable gardens, particularly because they can charge more money if they are going to sell their crop at the end of the summer. However, organic garden requires a little bit more work and creativity because you do not use chemicals or pesticides to take care of your plants. You can find organic deterrents and fertilizers, however, if you are interested in having an organic garden.
- Do not operate tractors without training: If you are a teenager that has a very large garden and your family has a tractor, make sure that you do not operate the tractor without proper training. An adult should take the time to properly train a teen how to drive a tractor, even if the teen knows how to drive a car (cars and tractors are two different things!).
