Growing vegetables in a small space

Many people want a garden but they don't think they have the space. Well you really do. You have to be creative but that is part of the fun. You don't have a huge space to work with, but you can make your garden look beautiful and have a wonderful crop in the fall. Here are some ideas for you.
If you really don't have any room in your backyard and don't have any soil or area for dirt, get some planters. They create the space for dirt for you. They are great if you live in an apartment that has a deck. It doesn't matter how big or small the deck is, as long as it gets enough sunlight for what you are growing, you are ready to go. You get too pick the vegetables you want this way, and you get to pick where they go and how they look. Pick all different sizes. You can buy ones to match your décor or buy ones that you can paint to match it. Have fun with it and really make it a garden from planters. Remember, you can grow just about anything in them.

Use the most of your garden space. Most people don't want their garden taking up half of their backyard, so decide how much space you want, and then maximize that space. Grow things that climb along your fence and things that might be able to grow beneath it, like potatoes. You don't have to have a huge garden. Think about how many people are actually going to be eating the food you are growing and make enough for them. You don't have to have a bunch of tomato plants if only 2 people are going to eat them. You will have too many left over. Also, plant things that you like. There is no sense in planting vegetables that no one is going to eat.
Think about what you want to plant. Then check to see if there are any smaller versions of them. Like smaller watermelons, or smaller tomato plants. Tomatoes come in all different shapes and sizes and are easily able to be switched out for something smaller. Watermelons usually take a lot of room to grow, but if you buy the smaller seeds, you will be saving space and be able to actually use the whole thing and all of them when you harvest them.
Be creative in where you plant things. I have heard of people decorating their lawns with their gardens. Plant herbs like sage or peppermint in front of your house. You won't have to do much upkeep and they both are wonderful looking plants. Plant bush plants like blackberries or beans. They are great alongside a fence or wall. They don't take up too much room again, but they give a lot of fruit when they are harvested.
Plant things in rows. They are easier to keep up and they also provide some order. When you keep things organized, you usually have more room. You can plant things like corn, lettuce, or onions in rows. They all take up little space and yield a good amount.
Be creative in planting your garden. You can have a wonderful garden in a small space if you really take the time to figure out what you want to do and how to make it work in your small space. You can always do a mixture of containers and a normal garden too.
