snowflakes30877990.jpgDecorating your home can become a challenge if you are a new home owner or you have just moved out on your own. When you first purchase a home or rent an apartment, you will not have much money to spend. You can still decorate your home with a small budget and being a new home owner. Find the tips and tricks listed below as a source for you to use and also a source for you to use to come up with your own ideas. Decorate your home to reflect you and what you like.

Start by choosing a style for your home. You can have a retro style, country style or traditional style. Once you have your style picked out, find a color to add to your home. The color can be applied with paint, wall paper, artwork, furniture or appliances. As you select the color you want to add, take into consideration the size of your home and the room you are decorating. If you are decorating a smaller room, you will want to use softer paint colors and wallpaper colors to help the room appear larger. Also use a limited amount of wall hanging, such as pictures and artwork. This will also help the room appear larger than it really is.

The furniture you use will need to fit the room. With smaller rooms, you do not want to purchase an oversize couch or bed. Oversized items will give the room an overwhelming feeling and will make your guests feel uncomfortable. Find furniture that you can move around easily and place in different areas. When you move your furniture, it will give the room a different feel and your guests will enjoy the variety that you are offering to them.

Add small accents to your home when you begin decorating your home. A lamp is a great source to use to add extra light to room, but it is also a source that will add a small accent. Do not place lamps along the center of a wall or in the middle of the room. Instead place them on end tables or in a corner. The lamp will put off enough light for you to use and see, but will not become the focal point of the room. Add pillows to the beds you have placed in the bedrooms and pillows onto your couches. Select the color and size that will fit your home. An overstuffed pillow might be the perfect accent that your living room needs.

Touch up the paint throughout your home. Cleaning off baseboards and adding a fresh coat of paint will give your home the new smell and also a fresh look. You can paint your base board the same color or add a new color to your home with your base boards. Wipe down the walls before you add anything to the wall. This will also give you an opportunity to fix any damage and holes that have been placed into the sheetrock. The less amount of damage, the newer and fresher your home will appear.

Add storage space into your home or your apartment. Storage space will give you extra places to put your personal items away. When you have fewer amounts of items out for people to see, your home will appear cleaner and also larger. Have somewhere to place your television remotes, magazines, books and blankets. Keep these items in a place that is easy accessible for you and your guests to use.

Start with the basics when you decorate your new home or apartment. Start with small items and soft colors and work your way up.
