Everyone has a fridge. And everyone has to clean out that fridge at one time or another. Figuring out how often to clean it out or how often to go through and make sure there aren't any containers filled with last month's lasagna can be frustrating. No one really loves to clean out the fridge and see piles of rotten and gross moldy food but it has to be done.

The best way to make sure you don't have piles of rotten and gross moldy food is to clean out your fridge as often as possible. If you are the type of person that knows exactly what's in their fridge at all times then you probably don't have to worry about cleaning the fridge too often. Just maybe go through it every two weeks to make sure that you have everything bad out. If you are the type of person that kind of knows what's in the fridge just try to go through it once a week and make sure you don't have any of that gross stuff in your fridge. It can also help remind you of what you have and can help you decide what to make for dinner that night. Keeping on top of your fridge is the best way you can make sure that you don't have piles of gross food and don't waste money on food.

When you are cleaning out your food, try to have areas in the fridge where the things that need to be eaten right away are or things that are for snacks. Let your kids know that those are the things they can eat for snacks and don't have to worry about asking you if you are going to use that for dinner tomorrow. That way your kids won't have to ask you all the time. They can just know that that's their area. Also check things like expiration dates. You don't want to have a one year old of bottle of Italian dressing in your fridge the next time you need it.

Not only do you have to go through your fridge but you also have to clean it. If the milk spills in the fridge try to clean it up right away. The longer a spill stays in the fridge the harder it will be to clean up. The fridge and freezer make it really cold and hard. Do a thorough cleaning of your fridge and freezer once a month. Keeping it clean will help keep your food smelling fresh and not like that old fridge smell.

When cleaning your fridge and freezer do one at a time and make sure you will have time to finish. You need to do it as soon as possible because you don't want your food to melt or go bad. Use soap and water to clean it. If there is stuck on food then you can use another cleaner but make sure you don't leave any of it behind. Let your fridge air out a little bit too. You don't want your apples smelling and tasting like Lysol.

Keeping on top of your fridge is important. No one likes wasting food and so making sure you know what's in your fridge will help you to not waste food and will keep your fridge smelling clean. It will also help keep it looking like new. You don't have to be a superwoman and know what is exactly in the fridge at all times, but reminding yourself once a week of everything will help you save money.
