How to care for your dryer
When you want to have clean clothes, you wash them, but part of that process is drying your clothes. Without the proper care of your dryer, you will not be able to dry your clothes. The following are some tips and tricks for caring for your dryer properly so that it continues to function and you can have dry clothes:
Tip one: You will want to clean the lint screen before every single load. If you are diligent about cleaning out the lint screen, your dryer will last longer because the airflow of the dryer will stay clear, and that keeps the dryer from overheating. If you do not know how to do this, look at your owner's manual as it is very important that you do so. If you forget occasionally, it is not the end of the world, but it is wise to not run too many loads without a good cleaning of the lint filter.

Tip two: You want to keep the outside of your dryer clean just as you want to keep the inside clean, so at least once a week wipe down the outside of the machine with a mild dishwashing liquid. This is best done with a damp cloth. Once wiped down, rinse with plain water. Wipe dry. This keeps soap residue from breaking down or corroding the finish of your dryer.
Tip four: If you use the top of your dryer as a work surface for treating stains, etc. you will want to be sure to cover it with a towel so that the abrasive solution does not corrode the finish or material of your dryer. This keeps it lasting longer.
Tip five: If you dry something that was not just laundered, such as towels when you get back from the pool or beach, be sure to wipe the drum of the dryer with a clean, soft, dampened with mild dishwashing liquid. You will then want to rinse thoroughly, and wipe dry. This keeps you from dirtying freshly laundered clothes later on.
Tip six: The exhaust duct of your dryer can become clogged, and if it does it can keep your dryer from being able to dry clothes. So, check the exhaust ducting at least once a year. Obstructions will restrict air flow which means longer drying times, and a dryer that is working harder for minimal results.
If you can manage to follow these six simple steps, your dryer will likely far outlast your warranty period. You will be able to get great drying each time you use, and experience the slight frustration, and huge relief of only having to do minor repairs as parts wear out, not because of neglect or misuse, but because of age.
If your dryer gets melted crayon in it you can clean it using a sponge that is sprayed with an all purpose cleaner. Use this to clean off as much crayon as you can, then wipe dry, and last but not least, tumble dry some wet rags to absorb as much of the remaining residue as possible. This will keep crayon from staining your clothes when you dry them.
If your dryer gets other spots on the drum that could cause stains on clothing being dried just be sure when you clean the drum that you do not spray soap directly on to it, instead use a dampened rag or sponge. This will keep it clean, and protect it from corrosion, etc.
