How to clean grills
We all want a nice clean grill, so here are some tips for how to clean your grill:
For the exterior of the grill:
First of all you want to keep it covered so that you won't have to worry as much about cleaning the outside of the grill. But, if you haven't had it covered up to this point, or if you just need to wash the exterior for some reason, use a mild dishwashing soap and water. Then rinse it off. You will not want to use a detergent as it will give a bad smell when you use your grill next as it burn off, and it can affect how your food tastes.

If the burner holes on the exterior of your grill get blocked with food debris, cooking temperatures become uneven, so you want to be sure to use a grill brush and clear any clogged holes with a pipe cleaner, or even just a needle.
If the heating element itself gets dirty, this can cause a lot of problems with your grill. It will not heat evenly, and will be less efficient. So clean the heating elements by turning them over and running the burner on high for at least thirty minutes.
If the grate is dirty it can be hard to clean, so put the grate between wet newspapers, cover it with plastic and leave it outdoors overnight, this will let the water work at the cooked on grime, and let it soften. After the night outside is over, you can bring it back in and scrub. Dirt and grime should lift off easily.
If you want to keep your grill in good condition and cooking in its prime, then about one time a year you will want to be sure to spray the cooking grate with a grease cutting solution. This can be a solution of 1 part diluted white vinegar and one part water, as this works really well. You may want to move your grill onto the lawn before doing this. Spray, then close the lid, and let the solution work for at least an hour. Scrape the grill gently with a putty knife if it needs extra help, and to get off all extra dirt and grime.
Another thing you can do to keep your grill in good repair so that it works better and has to be cleaned less is to oil it regularly. This should be done with a clean rag and oil, such as vegetable oil.
To reduce how often you have to clean your grill, try some of the following tips:
You will want to let the gas burn for fifteen minutes after using your grill to burn off any residue. This will help get rid of stuck on sauces and foods and keep your grill cleaner for your next use.
Brush grates with a tight bristled brass or stainless steel grill brush, you can pick one of these up at your local grocery or all-purpose store, and if you keep it near your grill and take a few moments each time you grill to brush the grate, your grill will stay much cleaner.
Cleaning your grill is simple, just remember not to clean it with something you would not want to eat, well at least not something that would hurt you if you ingested. The best cleaning solution is water and vinegar, and water and mild dish soap. If you get much stronger than that you start emitting fumes, and tainting your food.
