The second tip is to make traps for the slugs so that if they do get in your garden they will get trapped and not be able to eat your garden. You can do this by filling shallow containers with liquid and sinking them into the soil. Some people recommend using beer in these containers. If you are out at night you can hunt the slugs because this is when they come out of hiding because it is cool. You will want to make sure that if you find them you pick them up and destroy them. If you do not do this they will multiply and end up destroying your garden.
The third tip is to help create barricades around your plants by using lime or crushed eggshells and place them around your plants that slugs are more attracted too. You can also distract slugs from coming in your garden by leaving them treats outside of your garden. For example you can cut a grape fruit in half and then hollow out both halves and leave the hollowed out halves out where the slugs can get to them. This way they will go for these instead of your garden. You can also leave out old lettuce leaves that slugs are also attracted to. This way they will eat these treats instead of your garden. They also love beer, so just put a little dish of beer out, and they will eat that instead of the plants.
The fourth tip is to make sure that you water in the morning instead of at night. This way your foliage is dry overnight. You will also want to make sure that if you have pots that have drainage holes that you take some type of fabric and cover the holes so that the water can still drain out but the slugs cannot get in. Slugs love these types of holes because they are perfect for them to hide in and lay eggs.
The fifth tip is to create barriers. One barrier you can use is a copper barrier strips. The reason why these are good is because they give the slug a little shock when they come in contact with it. You may also want to encourage birds like crows, ducks, robins, geese, and blackbirds. Even frogs and toads, the reason for this is because they eat slugs so slugs are more willing to stay away.
