Container gardening is a popular type of gardening for people who have difficulty getting outside and gardening in their yard. This often includes people who have physical handicaps or elderly people who have a hard time getting around. However, container gardening is also a popular option for people who do not have a garden or a lot of space to grow plants. There are a couple of things that you can do to make sure that you get great plants when container gardening. Here are a couple of tips for container gardening:

  • Pick the right type of plant: Not every type of plant is going to do well growing in a container. For example, tall plants like corn stalks do not do well when they only have a limited amount of soil in which they can grow. Instead, you should try growing smaller plants. Some plants that do well growing in containers are bush beans, Swiss chard, carrots, green onions, strawberries, tomatoes, beets, cabbage, kale, bell peppers, turnips, blueberries, raspberries and summer squash. If you are interested in growing flowers, then you should look into growing flowers like pansy, petunia, marigold, snapdragon, and daffodils.
  • Fertilize your plants: If you are set on getting great plants when container gardening, then you really need to fertilize your plants. There are a couple of ways that you can fertilize your plants. If you are interested in having organic plants, then you should use an organic fertilizer. You should use a fertilizer every two or three or weeks. However, you also should read the instructions for your fertilizer carefully and make sure that you do not add more fertilizer than is recommended - if you add too much fertilizer, you could risk burning and ruining your plants. In contrast to other types of plants in regular gardens that have a lot of soil, container plants do not have a lot of soil to protect them from over fertilization. So, you need to be extra careful when fertilizing your container plants!
  • Water as needed: In order to get great plants when container gardening, you need to make sure that they get enough water. Plants that grow in containers are more susceptible to having dry soil, especially if you are placing your containers on a concrete patio in full sun. Therefore, in order to get great plants you will need to check your containers often to see if the soil is dry. You will probably need to apply water at least once or twice a day. You should add enough water so that the water begins to run out of the drainage holes. This will make sure that even the deepest roots in the container are getting some water!
  • Give your plant the right amount of light: The amount of sunlight you're your plant should receive will ultimately depend on what type of plant you decide to grow in your container. Make sure that you check the instructions and requirements for your type of plant, so that you know where to place you plant. If you are worried that your plant is not receiving enough light, you can try using reflective substances like aluminum foil or white painted surfaces to increase the amount of light. Using a mirror can be harmful to increase light, however, since it potentially could cause a fire.
As you can see, there are a couple of things that you need to do in order to get great plants when container gardening! If you follow these steps, then you are more likely to get the great plants that you are hoping for! Good luck!
