How to get pet stains off your carpet

Pet stains are probably the worst sort of stain you can ever get on your carpet. They smell and can stay with you longer than most other stains. Sometimes pet hair can stick into the stain and makes it even worse. There are expensive ways and of course the cheap ways of getting pet stains out of the carpet.
An expensive way to get your pet stain out is to buy a special vacuum cleaner that gets rid of pet hair and stains in carpet, specifically pet stains. Dyson makes a wonderful one that gets out stains pretty well. These vacuums are at most stores but cost a lot. They can typically get out the general stains or ones that have only been sitting for a few minutes but for a really deep stain you can try using some of the cheaper and more economical ways of getting out pet stains. Then use the vacuum when you catch your pet.

Here's probably the easiest and simplest way to get out a pet stain and something that everyone has around their house. Get some laundry detergent and mix some water with it. Put the mixture on the stain. Let the mixture dry overnight or for a few hours, depending on how deep the stain is. Scrape off the mixture as much as you can and then scrub and rinse it until all the soap is gone. Let it dry. If the stain still hasn't come out you can try this again or try some of these other methods.
Other products to try are carpet cleaners, especially the Resolve brand. Other brands work too but Resolve usually works the best. Oxy clean works, Woolite Oxy Deep works, and I've even found that Windex works. Most stores carry "for pet stains" versions of the cleaners so check before you buy the normal version. But before using any of these methods try a small spot on your carpet where no one sees, like the back of the closet, so if your carpet has a strange reaction to the cleaner you won't have to replace your carpet.
Using steam cleaners on your carpet often leads to the urine stain and smell being permanently in the carpet so avoid them! To see old urine stains, try using a black light bulb. They will help you check to make sure that you got all of the stains.
When your pet has an accident on something that is washable try using a one pound box of baking soda. It helps to neutralize the odors. When your pet has an accident try to get to the stain as soon as possible. The longer it sets in the harder it will be for you to clean. Remember if the stain doesn't come out the first time, just keep trying and trying. If it doesn't seem like you are getting anywhere, take a picture of the stain. Then when you are done trying to get it out, compare the picture to what you see in front of you. It will probably be slightly different but even that means that what you did worked and that you should keep trying and eventually it will all come out.
