How to get rid of mold in your bathroom

Bathrooms have a higher risk of mold in your home because of the water and the humidity that can get into your bathrooms. Almost every bathroom you come across has mold in some way or another in someplace. Mold is a fungus that causes black spots on your walls, fixtures or faucets and on your floors. It is very dangerous if left untreated and can cause serious illnesses. How to get rid of mold in your bathroom is something everyone should know how to do along with preventative measures for the mold.

There are many cleaners out there to buy that will help you clean the mold in your bathroom. Not all the mold cleaners you find will work very well but you can find some that work great. Try many different kinds until you find one that you like and then stick with that one. Follow the directions on the back of your cleaning container for the best results in getting rid of your mold.

You can also use homemade cleaners. The best homemade cleaner is just plain white vinegar. Vinegar smells better then any bleach and is better for your skin, lungs and air. It is also better to use vinegar when you have pets and younger kids in the house. It cleans just as well as bleach without the residue that bleach can leave behind. Vinegar is also easier on your pocketbook then many of the mold cleaners you will find out on the store shelves.

If you do decide to use vinegar for your bathroom mold then you can just put some vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray all the places that you have mold and all the places where mold likes to grow. This will include the sealing underneath your faucets, your shower curtains, in the grout of your tile floors, or near the edges of the linoleum, especially near the tub and toilets. You can either wipe the vinegar away with a cloth or let it sit. If you have standing vinegar on your floor it may be better to wipe it up. For extra protection you can even mop you bathroom floors with a vinegar and water solution every week or so for the prevention of mold growth.

If you have a bad case of mold growth in your bathroom you may need to take everything out. The source of the mold should also be removed and possible trashed if you can not get it cleaned up. There are companies that deal with the removal of mold so you can call them if you don't feel you are up for the project. If you decide to tackle the mold on your own then be sure to wear protective clothing, including gloves and a mask so you are not breathing in the mold spores. This big of a job you may want to use bleach or a more heavy duty cleaner meant for cleaning mold.

If you a carpeted bathroom with mold in it then you may need to replace the carpet. Linoleum and tiles are best to replace the carpet with. If the mold on your bathroom carpet is not too bad you can put some baking soda on the carpet for a few hours to let it soak and then vacuum the baking soda up. You may need to repeat this a few times. Keep an eye on the carpet to make sure the mold does not grow back.

You will have to use a cleaner to get rid of the mold at first but once it is taken care of you will need to use preventative measures so the mold doesn't grow back. Some of these preventative measures include running the fan in your bathroom to take out humidity. Keep some type of light on in darker bathrooms. Mold loves humidity and dark.

Another step to take in preventing mold is to use an ionizing air purifier. This helps pull the pollutants and the mold spores out of the air. This is a device that you will need to make sure is made right. Look for ones that have good reviews from people who have already used it.

Mold can be very toxic. Getting rid of mold in your bathroom is best done when you first see the signs. The best way to keep the mold away is to follow preventative measures. If you stay on top of mold growth you should have a mold free bathroom.
