Step one:
The first thing that you are going to need to do is to buy some flower pots, seeds, and potting soil from your local nursery or retail gardening store. You can also buy pre made soil balls that you just add water to.
Step two:
The next thing that you are going to want to do is to find a window sill that has more sun during the day then shade. The reason for this is that the plants are going to need a lot of sunlight in order to grow because of photosynthesis.
Step three:
You are also going to want to choose a room that has a predictable temperature, which means you want the temperature in the room to be steady, no drastic increases or decreases in the temperatures. The reason for this is that plants will grow better in certain environments.
Step four:
The next thing that you want to do is to talk with a local gardening expert about what kind of vegetables you should grow. These people will be able to tell you what vegetables will grow in your zone, as well as what zone you are in. You are also going to want to tell the person how much time you can actually spend tending your garden. The reason for this is that some plants grow well with little attention, whereas other plants require constant attention.
Step five:
The next thing that you are going to want to do is to add the soil to your flower pots and prepare it for planting. To prepare the soil for planting you are going to want to rake through the soil making sure that is loose and even and nothing is in the way of the growing path. You are also going to want to add fertilizer to your soil so that the vegetables get extra nutrients.
Step six:
The next thing that you are going to want to do is to draw out a simple plan of where you want everything to go in your flower box in your windowsill. It is probably a good idea to keep this nearby so that once your plants start growing you know where everything is and what each vegetable is going to be.
Step seven:
After you have drawn out the rough sketch of your window sill garden you are ready to start planting your seeds. The first thing that you need to do is to dig some trenches so that your rows are separated.
Step eight:
Now you are going to want to use a ruler to make sure that you plant the seeds exactly how deep they are supposed to be and how far apart they are supposed to be. When doing this you want the measurements to be exact because it can mean life or death for your vegetables.
Step nine:
After you have put the seeds into the soil you are going to want to cover the spot back up with the dirt and gently pat down the dirt, but don't jam it in there or you can block the plants growth.
Step ten:
Now with a watering can you are going to want to make sure that you lightly water the seeds you planted, but be sure not to wash the dirt away.
Step eleven:
Now place the flower box back in the windowsill and water your plants each day and you are ready to go.
