Here are the steps you need to follow to install a drinking water filter in your home.
Step one:
Mount the dispenser to your sink. Most of the dispensers are designed to fit in the extra hole that is provided in your sink top. If this extra hole is already being used you will have to drill in a new hole. Follow the instructions that came with the drinking water filter for the location and size of the hole. You only want to drill into stainless steel sinks or porcelain cast iron sinks. If your sink is all porcelain, you will want to drill the hole for the dispenser into the countertop.
Step two:
Using the existing cold water supply, you will want to install a saddle valve. To install the saddle valve you will need to turn off the water supply and then open the faucet to drain the line. Drill a small hole in the supply line following the instructions for the saddler valve. Turn the handle on the saddle valve so that you are exposing the lance that is designed to puncture the pipe. Position the valve over the pipe so that the lance fits inside the hole. Attach the back plate of the valve and tighten the nuts to lock it in place. Finally screw in the lance.
Step three:
Place the cartridge filtration unit roughly between the cold water line and the dispenser. You want to make sure that you leave the required clearance room between the system and the cabinet bottom so that you have room to replace the cartridges as needed. Using the screws provided secure the cartridge filtration unit to the cabinet back or wall.
Step four:
Now you are ready to start hooking up device. Start doing this by cutting a length of plastic tubing to reach between the saddle valve and the system. You want to cut the tubing short enough that it doesn't kink, but long enough to allow for installing a new compression fitting later on, if needed.
Step five:
Press the tubing into the compression fitting and thread it into the saddle valve. Tighten this with an adjustable wrench.
Step six:
Place the opposite end of the tubing into a different compression fitting. Thread the compression fitting onto the inlet port of the filtration unit. Using your hand, tighten the nut as far as you can. With an adjustable wrench, make another turn or turn and a half to ensure everything is sealed.
Step seven:
Cut apiece of tubing to run from the outlet port of the system to the water dispenser. You will want to insert compression fittings onto both ends of the tubing. Thread the nuts onto the dispenser and the system.
Step eight:
Turn on the water supply and open the water dispenser. You will want to allow the water to ruin for about five minutes. This will flush out any carbon particles or air pockets. Before you use the water filtration system for drinking water let the system run for 20 seconds the first time you use it.
Step eight:
The filters will need to be changed about twice a year. To determine if the filters need to be changed you will need to pay attention to the odor, taste, and flow of the water.
