How to keep your home up to date without needing to refurnish frequently
We all like for our homes to look nice. We want other people to enter into our homes and think good things about what we have done to make our living spaces look fresh, clean, and fashionable. Unfortunately, finances do not always allow most of us to continually add new furnishings or change out furnishings as our tastes change and as new trends are created. Luckily, there are plenty of affordable and simple ways to keep your home up to date without needed to refurnish frequently.

When you are making changes and choosing the initial design for your rooms be sure that you put particular emphasis on the room that first greets those who come into your home. This is most likely going to be a living room or a family room. If you are going to spend money making your home timeless, make sure that you allocate a good deal of your time and attention to this area of your house. This first room will set the tone for the rest of the house. Your guests will form their expectations for what they will see after looking at this first room. Some key pieces to have in these areas are tables and somewhere to sit. Even if the first room guest see is a foyer or entryway, make sure that there is somewhere to sit and somewhere to set things down on. Function can be beautiful and it is not hard to find a wooden bench and table that are both beautiful and timeless. Wooden pieces are easy to coordinate with, have a long life, and can be sanded down and stained if your design preferences change. Anything with built in storage or other dual functions is a good choice as these pieces can grow with you.
There is one room in the house that you should dedicate a good deal of time to when it comes to designing it right the first time. This room is the kitchen. The kitchen is typically the most expensive room in the home to renovate. Make sure that any changes you make are going to be able to age gracefully. Use wall paint to increase the appeal of the more permanent fixtures in your kitchen such as the cabinets and flooring. Simple, neutral colors are best when it comes to the seating upholstery and a round glass table can make a small space look larger without being too taste specific.
Another investment that you want to do right the first time is your investment in seating pieces. The room that you will be doing the most entertaining in is also the room that you want to be sure to have quality pieces of furniture in. Leather is a good choice and so is the color brown or beige. You want your couches to fit the size and shape of the room. Larger and longer couches fit best in large and long rooms, you get the idea. Coffee and side tables are suggested in a wood finish (for the same reasons mentioned above).
Bedroom furniture can be a challenge, as individual tastes change so frequently, especially in kid's rooms. By making an investment in good quality basic pieces up-front, you will save money in the end. Accessories are the only things that you should be changing as time passes. Accessories are the small items that you place on tables and even hang as art on the wall. It is ok to spend some money every year to add a new piece or two that you feel reflects the changing times and your personal style.
