How to organize closets and drawers

An organized closet is a happy closet. So, make your life more happy by organizing closets and drawers according to the following suggestions:

Suggestion one: Start by keeping only pertinent things in the closet. For example, if it is a clothes closet in your room, do not keep old photographs or memorabilia from high school, yearbooks, broken electronics, or whatever else you are storing in it. You will want to only keep the things that should be in it, in it, otherwise you will run out of space and not have room for what should go in there, your clothes and shoes. Keep all of the lose ends in a storage closet, spare room, garage, basement, or storage facility, but do not clog up your working space closets, the ones you use regularly with Christmas decorations, etc. No one wants to wade through wreaths and holly leaves to get to their nylons.

Suggestion two: Keep like things together. This seems to make sense, but if you look at your house and ask yourself where something is, like scissors for example, you will find you have several different answers. So, keep all of your shoes on the same set of shelves in your closet, hand dress shirts near each other, hang slacks near each other, etc. If you do this you know what you have and whether it is clean, pressed, etc. easily.

Suggestion three: use organizers. One great way to organize your closets and drawers is to use organizers. They were designed specifically for that, so why not use them? You can buy dividers for your drawers and keep socks on one side and underwear on the other. You can buy dividers for kitchen drawers to keep mixing spoons, spatulas, measuring cups, etc. separate. Using simple organizing techniques such as a divider or closet organizer is going to greatly aid in not only getting your drawers and closets organized in the first place, but keeping them that way.

Suggestion four: Use labels. If you want to get your closet organized and keep it that way, using labels helps. For example, in your linen closet simply tag where towels are to reside, where sheets, blankets, wash cloths, etc. This way any one who puts away laundry, or helps with the organizing can easily find where something goes.

Suggestion five: Put the things you use most often in the easiest to reach places. This is common sense, but whenever organizing a drawer or closet, you want to think through use. For example, in a drawer you want to put the items you use the most, like your mixing spoons near the front, and the items you use less frequently, such as a thermometer, or sift, near the back of the drawer. In a closet, you would put seasonal items up high in the closet, and things you use frequently at eye level. In your linen closet put your towels, hand towels, and washcloths at eye level, sheets up high, and large extra blankets low. This way everything is easy to get to according to how often it is used. The same holds true for your personal closets. Make sure that the items you wear most frequently are near the front of the closet, and items like your wedding dress, a tux, or formal suit, etc. that you only wear on occasion are near the back.

It is easy to organize a closet or drawer when you think through it logically.
