All of us have lived in a home where there are bugs or other pests. You look around and there is some sort of large bug just sitting there looking at you or climbing up your furniture. We all know that bugs and other vermin bring germs and filth with them. It is not healthy to live with insects in your home or in your work area. They are also kind of creepy and are certainly not the sorts of things that you want your friends seeing in your home. Mice and rats are especially dangerous and they bring all sorts of terrible diseases with them. They also can eat and destroy your food. You can see that there are some serious problems associated with these critters. So what can you really do about insects in your home? Can you simply show them the door? If you talk to a mouse will it just pack its little bags and leave? Obviously these little critters get something out of your home, so they are not going to leave politely. If you have a serious pest problem, whether it be rodent or insect, you will need to take some serious steps to prevent the problem from continuing. With just a few simple steps you can easily eliminate the majority of pests in your home and prevent them from returning.

The first thing to realize with almost any insect or rodent problem is that the creature comes from the outside. It does not come from inside your home. There are some cases when insects literally breed in your home, but in most cases they are coming from the outside to find something inside the home or to seek shelter in the home. What you really need to do first in foremost is not just to spray deadly chemicals all over everything. What you really need to do is to pest proof your home. Realize that animals and insects are exposed to the elements and constantly in search of food. They desperately need to find a place inside, away from hot or cold weather. They might enter a home because of a drought or because of flood. There are all sorts of reasons for why they would come into your home. You need to find a way to keep them from entering in the first place.

One important step is to cover up any obvious passageways between the outside and inside of the home. One major spot is the door itself. You need to install door sweeps and make sure that the corners are covered. You will also need to put chalk at the bottom of doors so that the threshold hits the calk, preventing small insects from entering. Make sure that your garage is fully sealed and that the garage door has a rubber seal on the bottom of it. Many homes have holes where pipes or wires enter the house. This is a common source of insects in a home. What you will need to do is plug these up with calk or some other material. Any other obvious holes in the house, such as in a screen or at a window sill will need to be covered or repaired.

You can spray pesticide as well. It is up to you what you do to prevent pests, but realize that if they can come in they will. If you leave food uncovered you can also be sure to have pests entering, regardless of how well sealed your home is.
