How to remove carpet stains

Removing tough stains from carpet is easier if you react fast. Here is how to get those stubborn stains out.

With all spills, spots, and stains, the sooner you attach the mark the better.
Start by blotting up the spill or mark. Do not rub, blot. This means taking a cloth that is clean, placing it on the spot, and then applying small pressure to have the mark come up as much as possible into the clean cloth. If you rub the spot, you could make the spot bigger.
Do not rub the stain into the carpet. Carpet is made from a huge variety of diverse carpet ranges. 1000's of textures, colors, designs and styles. Knowing your type of carpet is important for the treatment of the cleaning of that carpet.
Carpet is a fine thread-like material that is changed into yarn then tufted or woven into the carpet we have today. There are about six primary fibers used in carpet today: Nylon, Polypropylene, Corterra, Polyester, Acrylic, and Wool.
It is always a great idea to remove a stain as soon as you can. Another important tip is to make sure that the cleaning solution you are going to use is not going to damage the carpet you have. The best way to do this is to try a little area on your carpet that is not in plain view. Remember to blot stains, not scrub them in.
There are different kinds of carpet stains that have different ways to be removed. Here is a list of some of the more common stains and how to remove them.
Chocolate and Candy
- Scrape or remove any of the chocolate and candy
- Sponge the area lightly with cool water
- Place a little laundry detergent on the stain
- Use a towel or sponge to blot the spot until no more of the chocolate or candy comes onto the towel
- Softly put on an ammonia and water mixture of 2 tbsp of ammonia and 1½ cups water
- Blot dry, and then vacuum the area or use your carpet cleaner
Cosmetics
- Remove any access makeup
- Pat the area with a dampened towel
- Use a cleaning detergent with enzymes
- Blot the area with a damp cloth
- Softly apply the ammonia and water combination of 2 tbsp of ammonia and 1½ cups of water.
- If needed try a 1 cup white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water
- Air dry the area and then vacuum or clean with carpet cleaner
- Use a dry, clean cloth to remove any access of the spill
- Use an ammonia and water combination of 2 tbsp of ammonia and 1½ cup water.
- Pat on an enzyme releasing detergent
- Rinse with plenty of water
- Dry by patting with a clean dry towel
- Vacuum the area or use a carpet cleaner
- Sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on the area of the spill to soak up any access.
- Apply a small amount of detergent to the spill area.
- Use warm water to help the detergent gather the remaining mixture
- Using a sponge, soak up as much of the spill and cleaning solution as possible
- Cover the area with a plain white towel over night
- Then vacuum or clean with a cleaner
