How to spot clean carpet

How to spot clean your carpet? Often times you either do not have the time to clean your entire carpet, or the entire carpet is not in need of a thorough cleaning. Yet, there are those pesky spots of spills marks, dirt, or disaster that tend to take its place in the middle of your beautiful carpet. In this case, you will need to do what is a spot cleaning of the carpet.

There are simple ways that are fast, and easy to clean the spots on your carpet. Following these tips will make it much easier in the long run to prevent harder to remove stains.

1. If the spot you are trying to remove is still damp, blot it up with a cloth that is very porous. A dry towel, paper towel, or cleaning cloth that is dry, and will not bleed color onto the carpet area.
2. If there are any solid particles on the carpet, use a scraper, or spatula to remove those items from the carpet. Use care not to rub the particles hard into the carpet, simply pry and pull the items up carefully.
3. If the particles in the carpet are sticky, and stuck into the carpet, that dampen the area with a mild carpet detergent watered down with warm water. Let this mixture sit until there is enough of a movement to take the item safely off of the carpet without damaging the carpet.
4. If the area has a dry crusty spill, then use a spatula to scrape it off a little and a vacuum to remove the items that are dried and scraped off.
5. Make sure before you use any type of cleaning solutions that you done know, to pretest an area of the carpet that will not show to the public. The reason is that some cleaners affect some carpet types differently than others.
6. If you spray the cleaner onto an area, and then after five minutes, you use a cloth to dampen up the cleaner. Then if the color of the carpet comes off into the cloth, then it is better to use a different cleaner to protect the color and integrity of the carpet.
7. Always use a white cloth when applying a specific cleaner. Simply spray the cleaner directly onto the cloth, and then use the cloth to apply the cleaning solution to the carpet.
8. Work the stain from the outside in to the inside of the spill or spot. This is done with moving the cloth in a tight circular motion.
9. You will need to repeat this motion until the stain is removed.
10. For the best result, treat a spot or mark as soon as possible. Letting it sit for a few hours can result in a stain that is much more difficult to remove.

Each method for different types of carpets will differ. Blotting a spill will remove the initial amount of the spill. However it is still going to be necessary to scrub and use cleaner on most spills.
Carpet also has some different options for stain resistance. If you know you will have children or other factors that will be causing spills often, it will be handy to have a mini carpet cleaner, or a full size cleaner even for simple spot cleaning.

In the worst case scenario and the spot does not come out immediately, simply use a damp white towel over the spot, and your iron on a low setting to try to remove the spot that way.

This is how to spot clean your carpet. Keep these ideas in mind, while you fight the all-powerful Kool-Aid stains.
