How to update your bathroom.

There are a number of different things that you can do to update your bathroom and give it an up to date look for a price that you like. Here are some tips on how you can update your bathroom with just a few simple steps and some changes in how you do things.

Updating your bathroom doesn't mean that you have to call up a home remodeling specialist to come in and tear up your tile, put in a new bathtub, and extend the wall five feet. Instead, you can follow these simple ideas to give your bathroom the update that will make you feel better about your living space and that can help reenergize you by freshening up your look.

There are three areas that you can work on to update your bathroom:

1. Organization
2. Accessorizing
3. Lighting
4. Color

First of all, organization.
Take everything out of your drawers. Take everything out of your cupboards. Take everything off of your counters. Now throw away everything that isn't essential. Take everything that is left over and pick out some containers. Pick chic ones for the things that you will keep on the counters-rolled up washcloths and towels or whatever. Pick utilitarian ones for things that you will keep in the cupboards and the drawers. Now organize everything. Group things together that go together-all hair supplies together, all first aid supplies together, and so on. A good idea is to buy a pull-out towel bar. Put it in your cabinet, and then you can hang any damp washcloths or any cleaning rags or washcloths there. They'll be out of sight, but it will be a good place to put them. And add some more towel bars. There's no reason to shove all of your towels on one bar. Also think of adding an over the door towel hook. You can also pick up a small standing cupboard or armoire that will not only look good, but can help you organize.

Second, color, color, color
Painting your bathroom a bright, cheery color can open things up. Or paint it white and choose a nice, bright accent color. Another option is stenciling patterns. You can choose a simple stencil and paint a border around the window, the mirror, or the ceiling. Or you can go for wallpaper. Whether wallpapering or painting, make sure that you choose a paper or a paint that is treated to withstand mold and humidity. Or you can just wallpaper or paint one wall for an easier and instant update. Another option is border paper.

You can also add color to your room by buying a colorful shower curtain, a bright rug, or nice bright and patterned towels.

Third, LIGHT!

Updating your lighting can be a great way to update your bathroom. Install inexpensive, yet classy lighting fixtures. Consider a dimmer light that can let you control the lighting level in your bathroom. Think about wall sconces, track lighting, a lamp even.

Fourth, accessorize
There are a number of different ways you can accessorize. You can go all the way and buy a great mirror. Or you can update the hardware. Choose nice looking handles for your drawers, nice containers, great towels, or candles. Be careful not to have too many accessories-then you'll just have clutter again. Rather, choose a few well matched pieces. Coordinate them. They don't have to be expensive-you can even make something that looks great. But just buying a new wastebasket, a new shower curtain, a soap dish, and some new window coverings can completely update your entire bathroom.
