Here are some ideas you can use to garden in small spaces.
Number one: Vertical container gardening
Container gardening in general is a great idea for gardening in small spaces because containers can offer you a chance to do vertical gardening. For example, you can stack three containers of various sizes from large to small and fill all of them with a mixture of compost and rich organic soil. You will then want to plant vegetables or flowers that require the most space in the bottom two planters so they have the extra room to grow. In the top planter, you can plant flowers and foliage of your choice to make it even more attractive. Stacked containers are a great way to maximize your limited space and still provide you with an impressive display of plants.
Number two: Growing strawberries
If you want to grow strawberries, you need to be aware of the fact that they require a lot of space because of how they vine and spread out at a rapid pace. Even if you have limited space, you can still grow strawberries without having to buy hanging strawberry planters. You can go to your local home improvement store and buy a two-foot section of PVC pipe and a cap for the bottom. You will need to drill two-inch holes about five inches apart around the entire tube and glue the cap in place with waterproof epoxy. Fill the tube with rich soil and plant strawberries in all of the hole openings, including the top. All that is left is hanging the pipe in a sunny location.
Number three: Hanging planters
You do not only have to display flowers in hanging planters, you can also use hanging planters for fruits and vegetables. One of the best things to use from hanging planters is tomatoes, mostly your cherry and plum tomatoes because they are the perfect size for hanging planters. You can also plant herbs inside of hanging planters. If planting herbs in the hanging basket be sure to place it in a good location because the herbs can provide an aromatic display that will last the entire growing season. Lettuce and other vegetables that can be used to make a salad can also be planted in hanging baskets successful. Hanging baskets free up a lot of space when compared to containers or window boxes.
Number four: Growing root vegetables
When it comes to growing root vegetables, many people think that you have to have a large garden space because of how much room that takes up. This is a bad assumption and many people miss out on the attractive foliage some of the root vegetables produce, such as potatoes. Instead of planting root vegetables in the ground, you can plant them in deep wooden barrels because these barrels will offer plenty of drainage. Potatoes and carrots only require a depth of twelve inches to grow so a wooden barrel will be plenty deep enough to grow your favorite root vegetables.
These are only some of the ideas that you can use to garden in small spaces. No matter how much space you have in order to be successfully with gardening you just need to have the right amount of sunlight and a little creativity.
